Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

BPman Thanks. Checked. I hoped to get a personal impression, instead of getting the boring (that's it from users) list of notes.

I must admit the new packaging from NO is outstanding. I just ordered a sample pack to see what all the fuss is about.

Ordered Barrbarr and Lone Star with matching AS.
Slickness is off the charts for real. Residual is so good, you really don’t even need to use soap for the 3rd pass if you don’t want to.

Scents are nice, Barrbarr smells just like my first can of Gillette foam, with a bit of spice. Lone Star is like a 2nd cousin to Barrbarr, with a more woody than spicy dry down. Very interesting scent, not your standard AS scent at all.

Post shave is also very good can feel the protective oils without leaving the skin feeling oily.

I do think that this could be a very good winter soap as well.

I just spent the last 3 days shaving with Thé Noir et Vanille and using the matching aftershave. I rank this among my top scents, right up there with Wholly Kaw Lav Sublime and Declaration Grooming/Chatillon Lux Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli. The soap itself performed quite admirably providing plenty of cushion and slickness for my shaves.

How’s the performance versus your WK and CL?

This is welcome news.

I had some samples of the old formula and didn't find anything remarkable about it

Got the Noble Otter soaps yesterday, the Barrbarr and the Thé Noir Et Vanille, and they got here very quickly, with a personal note-always a nice touch.

Shaved with the Barrbarr this morning, and I was very impressed.

Extremely easy to lather, and it can take lots of water.

I'm not one who's very good at describing scents, but to my nose, the Barrbarr was a barber shop scent with a bottom note of sandalwood and patchouli that balanced out the citrus accords nicely. The Thé Noir Et Vanille smelled like being served a cup of black tea and having strawberry and currant jam on the side to go with the scones. The 'fruitiness' is balanced by the tea notes. Haven't shaved with it yet, but it's a very nice scent from the tub.

I've been shaving with a straight razor for the better part of the last year, and the glide of a soap is the most important factor to me. This soap has a wonderful combination of glossy lather and cushioning with superior glide. After a second pass, I did some touch ups with a straight razor with just the residual that was on the face, and the razor glided so smoothly.

Squeezed the extra soap from the brush and put it on the face after the shave while I cleaned up and stropped the razor, and after rinsing, really didn't need an after shave or balm. Very soft, moisturized-but-not-heavy post shave feel.

What a wonderful shave.

This is a soap than can hold its own with the established artisans' tallow soaps such as Declaration Grooming, Grooming Dept, Barrister & Mann, Wholly Kaw donkey milk, A&E new, etc.

What an amazing time to be a wet shaver. When I first joined here, I was making the transition from a 'roll your own' shaving mix from Method Shaving to the 'modern' soaps, and vtmax mentioned that with the new soaps, all of that mixing of oils, balms and creams wasn't necessary. With the latest releases from artisans, both established and new, I am beginning to see what he meant.

Hi frenchy,

I think it is a notch below Wholly Kaw and Declaration Grooming in performance but still very good. At the present time, for me Wholly Kaw sets the standard for North American artisans (with the possible exception of Tallow & Steel which I have on order) for performance. It always seems to present a thick creamy lather, a wonderful cushioned shave with great slickness and top notch post shave feel that goes on for hours. Declaration Grooming is not far behind. WK just seems a bit richer. Where WK falls short, I think, is in the scents. I have several WK soaps and the only one to reach my own personal top tier scent level is Lav Sublime. Of course this is highly personal and subjective though I know you are also a big Lav Sublime fan, and your reviews were one of the reasons I purchased a tub. Right up there with it for me are DG YRP and Noble Otter Thé Noir et Vanille scents. Just absolutely wonderful stuff.

Best regards,
Glenn

I need more shaves with both but at this point it’s purely subjective. Noble Otter and Wholly Kaw are both really great creamy soaps with amazing slickness.
Subjectively I think WK is better for me, but it’s down to the intangibles that are down to preference. I am very happy with both, right up there with Tallow and Steel for me.
