Just in my fourth week of safety razor head shaving.  No experience with safety razors previously.  All experience was with cartridge razors.

So far my experience has been great.  Contrary to my fears I have not sliced and diced my head.

My problem had been this strange little Ridge (cowlick?)  on the upper left side of my head that has always been extremely difficult to shave smooth.  Numerous razor passes have always been required even with cartridge blades over the years.  With the use of a safety razor this has improved but it has still been necessary to make extra razor passes. I have used Personna platinum, Derby extra, and Astra blades.  The Personna seemed to work best but were still not perfect.  The Derby blades were awful.

I had read about Feather blades and wondered if these might be the solution.  Several posts pointed out how aggressive Feather blades are and how they are not for newbies.  In spite of this I decided to see if they could solve my problem with the " difficult" spot on my head.  To prepare I took an extra hot and longer than usual shower and oiled my head well with pre shave oil.  Using a very light and slow touch with my Parker 96R butterfly, I shaved my head successfully with only one minor nick.  The good news is that the entire shave took fewer razor passes on both the difficult spot and the rest of my head. Because of fewer razor passes my head felt much better than in previous shaves.  The Feather blades worked wonderfully and I did not butcher myself.  The end result made the whole shaving process milder on my head than any previous shave.  Then finishing up with a nice creamy after shave balm made my skin feel wonderfu.  Still plan on experimenting with other blades but think Feathers will be my go to blades for a while.

Am very pleased with my little move to safety razor shaving.  Shaving with oils, shaving soap, and after shave balms have turned this chore into a fun experience.

Thanks to you guys on this great forum for hints and advice. I could not have done this without the great input I got from reading posts here.

All my best,

Jerry
