Keep in mind that we all have different facial structure, skin and bears characteristics.  I would never suggest that someone skip the Feathers and go straight to the GEMS.  Folks ought to try both.

Thanks, Pete123 good point about us all having unique facial and skin characteristics. I can forget that sometimes. I know that just because I prefer efficient razors and sharp blades, doesn't mean that's remotely good for everyone. In fact, for some that's a combination that spells serious irritation.

I'm actually looking forward to trying a despined GEM in the CORE-maybe I'll have better experience in that than the original v1.

I have enjoyed my Core thus far and I will be taking it on a trip to WV this weekend. I admit I am considering a Genesis model based on my experience with the Core. The fact that the Genesis will or will not work with a Gem blade will not enter the equation at all for me. I will make my purchase decision with the idea of using the Feather blades it was designed to use. If I purchase the Genesis and don't like the shave with a Feather, it will be returned. If I can wrap my head around a $400 razor then the cost difference between Feathers and Gems is a minor detail. Utilizing the OneBlade subscription plan blade costs would be $20 for 30 blades. Even using each blade for 2 shaves would be $10 a month. I can more than live with that amount.

I do enjoy using Gem blades in vintage razors. I am very tempted by the modern razors using the blades. As such, I am waiting on the reviews of the new ATT and Blackland Gem razors before I make a decide which route to go.

Michael & Pete, I agree with you that both blades should be tried. While I've been a very vocal advocate for the GEM blade I have to admit that the Feather blade works better for me in the CORE. So I'm currently using GEMs in the v1 stainless and Feathers in the polymer CORE. Crazy, right?!

Hey Clint,
If I remember correctly the original V1 sold for appx $300.00 however its seemed that it often sold for $200.  Wonder if they have run any promotions like that since the V2 launched or maybe on Black Friday this year.  That would be a nice chunk of change to save.

I am not sure it will ever get back to the $200 range. However I would be more inclined to purchase If it were closer to $250-$300. I think OneBlade would be well advised to offer an upgrade coupon of $100 to all those that purchased a Core.

Oh yeah, I was meaning appx. $100 less or so, which would be in that $300 range.

I just returned the OneBlade (Genesis) I had borrowed from a forum friend after really putting it through its paces.
Made in China using the investment casting process.
A nice shaver worthy of a $150 price tag.

I'm sure they made it for a whole lot less.

I have a couple of thoughts about the blades.

Some important things about the GEM blades:

GEM blades benefit from being palm stropped before the first use. A light touch is all that is needed. Here is a video, though he’s pressing too hard in my opinion:

GEM has a full product line. You specifically need the PTFE coated stainless steel blades.

Here is a link if you want only a few:

Here is a link to buy in bulk, scroll down. You are looking for product # 121-3.

Now, moving on to the Feather 10’s and the fairly short life. It occurred to me that palm stropping might extend the life of every couple of shaves. Perhaps someone has already tried this. I shave with straight razors as well and we strop them before every use.

I’ve learned that a very light touch is much for effective with a straight razor. Stropping doesn’t sharpen the blade. It straightens parts of the razor edge that have bent over. The reason a light touch is best is the edge of the razor is very, very thin. Using too much pressure merely bends it the other way.

I’ll also dovetail on what vtmax said. I believe the SS version is a solid value at $200. I guesstimate that injection molding in China would cost about $100 per unit. In my view, charging more than $200 moves into the greed category.

Well... I'm glad I didn't order one though I was close to. This thread, amongst others in various English speaking forums, is being closely followed over here and I can tell you there is... concern. The Cores that were ordered by guys at this side of the Pond are still on their way and haven't landed yet. I'll let you know what happens when they do.

Nothing but good close comfortable shaves for me so far. Curious to hear what the feedback is after someone there has actually tried it for themselves.
