Finally decided I 'need' a new brush.
Probably will be an AP Shave 28mm SynBad (or SilkSmoke?)
I like the look of the fan knot.
Any thoughts on good/bad between the bulb/fan? The SilkSmoke is only in 28mm bulb knot though.
And yes...I do want a 28mm. Currently use mainly Yaqi synthetics.
Have a few 24mm, but don't like or use them now.
Have the 26mm Yaqi Rainbow, Pony knot and it's 'almost' there. Good sized handle too.
I'm thinking I would enjoy a 28mm (but prefer a change from Yaqi now) so AP Shave seems the way to go for me.
I face lather, and normally just lather up the brush in the soap tub (Stirling at the moment).
So there you go...fan or bulb...your thoughts?
TIA.

I don't know anything about synthetics, but for Badgers, I am a lover of fans. They're great for face lathering.

Generally, and I suppose mileage can vary…bulbs are better for bowling and fans are better for face lathering.
I’ve found that with synth knots, fans just don’t work.
Might be the backbone, might be the fiber tips.

I'm a huge fan of Oumo synths.
AP Shave uses different names (and prices), but the knots are Oumo.

SynBad is the Mother Lode, with classic aubergine color and whiter points.
I love mine, with bulb 28x50mm setting but next I'd go 30x48mm.
For sure NOT in fan shape, because this fiber splays a lot!!!

Synbad is the Motherlode?
Maybe I misunderstood you, 'cause mine are very different but not just the colors

I've Mother Lode, and I've tried SynBad.
IMHO I think they are the same fiber.
Different just the setting.
I do it in mines, not by factory.

I respect your opinion, but must disagree, from my AP shave synbad and elite razor $30 Motherlode.
My Motherlode is  softer, although I like the Synbad at times as it is less dense.
Funny how we shavers see things, but that make it fun, I think.

Thanks guys. Decision made...I bought both.
AP Shave SynBad 28mm bulb and a SynBad 28mm fan.
Now, that should give me a good comparison between the two styles.
I am fairly confident that I will enjoy them both.

Bulb for me normally over a fan but I’m coming round to fans more

Interesting.  I had heard the exact opposite!  Ha.  "ymmv" is right I guess.  I use bulbs exclusively and face lather.  I've tried fans a bunch of times, but I just don't like the way the feel when I face lather.  It feels like they are 'all over my face' if that makes any sense, and I have less control over the lather.
