As always, impeccable packaging and attention to detail from Blackland is superb. Everything is protected, placed in its particular spots that gives a personal touch and tells the consumer that you are not just buying a tool but, also what’s behind the incredible make up of this forward thinking and innovative shave goods manufacturer. First class, period.

A few pics below and a few short words to give some detail on the initial shave experience….

To save the suspense and any extra fluff as I’m about to head out the door with friends & family for eats & cocktails, I will tell you that Shane over at Blackland has nailed every facet and objective goal that he wanted to accomplish with the renewed Sabre. Quality & fitment is precise (fiddle with the top cap, guard and base plate fitment gents. Just to get familiar with how the guard and magnets fit into a precise position for proper blade alignment and everything else. Takes no time to get familiar with the process) with excellent feel in hand that is both well balanced & secure. I used the L3 guard attachment as I had 3 full days of growth to contend with. That guard size is a very noticeable upgrade in efficiency & feel over the original L2 plate from the OG Sabre yet, it still offers a very smooth and controlled feel over the skin that is on par with the previous L2 plate option. Feels like a more stable and direct Clog-Pruf with the smoothness of the OG Sabre L2. 2.5 passes was all that was needed to achieve a near full BBS minus a spot or two on both sides of the Adam’s Apple area. I was pressed for time and left that for the next shave where I can concentrate a bit more on total whisker annihilation.

Very, very impressive first shave and I think Shane meet & exceeded what he was trying to accomplish with the revamped Sabre. Only 1 shave in but, I’ve had my OG Sabre since it was first released (since 2017) and have put in well over 100 shaves. I can honestly say with the New Sabre that this is a superior version that still screams Blackland quality, style & innovation. I’m extremely excited to run this razor through its paces with all 4 levels of shave adjustability. This is a winner at the moment.

Great shaves to all….

First shave completed with the new Sabre. I want to get another session in tomorrow before sharing more detailed reporting. Today's session was Level 4 versus two days of growth and the result was a high degree of BBS. It did take an initial pass to orient to an angle that offered a balance of smoothness and effectiveness. But once that angle was discovered, it resulted in a relatively quiet and comfortable outcome, with no significant concern for injury. I spend a lot of time with a different artisan's GEM razor and that muscle memory may have been working against me.

Tomorrow's session will be with the Level 3 configuration. Looking forward to comparing effectiveness and BBS duration provided by each of these plate configurations.

I hope everyone is having an excellent weekend.

An easy shave this morning. I used the L2 guard plate as I wanted to compare it to the original L2 and there is just the slightest uptick in shave performance. Still very smooth and comfortable against the skin with very good cutting ability. As has been stated here in a previous post by rocket there is some wiggle room in adjusting the new Sabre in attaining optimal cutting performance and your desired comfort zone but, it’s pretty straightforward and very easy to maintain. That said, there is a slightly better cutting window that offers some maneuverability to one’s specific shave attack tastes. I prefer a full on head on face and just a slight downward tilt to engage and I’m off to the races. Just an excellent shave today. Maybe not as deep and thorough as the L3 guard plate was but, still good enough for a DFS finish. 2 shaves in and it has been a pure joy to use and experiment with.

Great shaves to all…

Highly enjoyable shave today with the Level 3 plate. I might have a preference for it over the Level 4, although it is too early to say with only two sessions in. Definitely forming some thoughts on this razor, although I think I need another session to finalize initial impressions. One small note, the post shave face feel is somewhat reminiscent of my experience with a vintage GEM MMOC. It is hard to fully describe. But something in the nature of the way stubble regrowth feels, along with overall skin condition post shave, evokes memories of time spent with that razor.

Scentsless Shaver
Oakland, ME
The new Sabre arrived today as foretold by USPS. In anticipation, I held off shaving until after the late morning postal delivery. My first impression was how nice it looked in person, and that the weight and feel of the Sabre was just right for me. I had the first version, and while I liked it, it was heavy compared to my mostly vintage razors. Also, I did not find the interchangeable safety bars to be fiddly. They fit snug and are easy to remove.

Grabbing a favorite soap and brush, I got ready for the shave!

I found the angle fairly quickly, but I can tell I will need more time, which is fine, as I plan to use this razor all week. For more details, please see my Journal.
