You have to admit, Shane is forever thinking forward. Innovation has been the name of the game for this artisan manufacturer since day 1. But, what really makes Blackland one of the leaders in design and implementation in the razor field is that Shane isn’t afraid of failing in a particular design or creation. Look at the discontinued Dart for example. Didn’t do great in the retail end of it (though I consider it to be one of his best creations) so, on the chopping block. The BrassBird was another that didn’t cut the mustard in terms of sales and demand. That’s not an easy thing to accept and yet he makes a tough decision and the right one in cutting his loses and moving on to the next objective. I give props to the man for realizing when something is not working or achieving the results (in Blacklands case, ultimately it’s sales) that the product was intended for. Personally, Blackland can rest on its laurels as he has multiple winners in the line up that cover nearly every aspect in the wet shave realm. Well, an injector is yet to be released but, there’s a top seller in the Legendary Blackbird in both SS & Ti, the SS & Ti Vector which is arguably the best SE in the business and for me a modern Icon in the GEM bladed razor, the Sabre. You can make the case that Shane at Blackland has the best line up in a luxury razor and is hedging his bets and moving on in on potentially creating a razor that’s intended for the masses or everyday joe. That’s aggressive thinking, taking a calculated risk and covering both high and low end with quality at competitive pricing.
Pardon my French but, in our niche world/universe, that’s F***ing impressive if you ask me. Hope he sells every single one and that his products continue to be a success in this part of the market…..
