There isn’t really a standard, but I think L3 is killer and it’s designed to have the most mass appeal. I’m a Blackbird guy, but Era L2 and L3 have been my go-to because they’re sooo smooth and comfortable while efficient enough. Closest to the Blackbird is L5, but it’s a very different shaving experience.

different in what way?  more aggressive?  more blade feel?  I'm a blackbird fan myself.

Hopefully that previous post helped. Basically it's just a different style of razor. You wind up in a similar spot with similar efficiency, but it's a different approach. It doesn't have that Blackbird magic. Instead, it has the Era magic.

How many grams does it weigh? Have you announced pricing yet for the base plates? and will it be available to purchase separately right away?

Shane is the handle CNC and what kind of metal is it? Also what are the optional grip rings made out of?

good.  I'm excited for you, Shane, and kudos for continuing to push the envelope and delivering us with great products at an affordable price.

I'm a frugal, cheap guy, so anything <$100, I'M IN.

I appreciate that! Honestly I think expensive razors are wonderful, but silly. I want to bring incredible quality and performance to the masses at a price that is fair and reasonable. That’s where the growth is and that’s where I want to be.

To me, that at least touches on the core of what you have to be proud of Shane.

Now on to a more ticklish question, one that is bound to come up and that relates to where and how far the Era and 3DEO are headed:  How do you see this technology affecting the sales and price points of your own expensive razors?  Perhaps a better question would be when?  I get it that 3DEO is a breakthrough technology.  Does it have limits that would make a $75 Blackbird infeasible?  Do you see those limits being overcome?

BTW please forgive me this has been discussed.  We are juggling a lot of balls on the home front right now, so I haven't yet seen the podcast
and I may have missed a few posts here, or skimmed them too quickly.

I also appreciate that while others are making limited run razors at higher prices, you are looking for ways to make them more available and cheaper. I think that’s a better long term business strategy as well.

Yea I really don’t believe that $300+ or even $200 razors are the future and it’s certainly not where the big business opportunities are. I’ve always wanted to get the quality of a $200 razor at under $80 and this gets us there without sacrificing a single thing. The Era is actually a lot more capable than CNC razors with the same tolerances and mechanical properties at $75. We’ll also be able to scale to match whatever demand is thrown our way once we open the flood gates. It’s a no-brainer.

Obviously there will always be a market for the high end stuff for us hobbyists, but the challenge is driving the price point low enough that you can start competing with Leaf, King C. Gillette, etc. I'm still curious how high the adoption of traditional shaving might go if someone would make a high-quality, affordable DE (that isn't Zamack) and put some marketing behind it the way Supply and a few others have done.

I think the expensive stuff will still do well, but we'll find out. MIM razors do everything CNC razors do, but CNC razors are still growing in popularity. So I think there is something visceral about machined products that people love.

We won't make a Blackbird or any other design we currently make this way. There will be more razors made this way, but I don't see a world where I 3D print Blackbirds.

Blackland Razors few have come out with CNC manufactured slant razors that captured the elegant compound curves of the vintage zamak and bakelite slants. I can only think of RR, Fine, and Ikon. I know you occasionally pick up and put down your slant project. Would this 3D manufacturing process help in capturing the intricate curves of a vintage slant razor?
