Mug vs Bowl

I use a mug to warm my brush & use my Stirling bowl to lather, however depending on the soap I might also face lather.

I prefer to face lather and soak my brush in what was my Grandfather’s over 100 year old mug. Because warm lather is also nice I invested in a Dirty  Bird brush scuttle .

Sorry to resurrect an older thread but the silicon shaving bowls from Stirling (basically dog bowls meant to slow down eating) are quite good generating a lot of air in the lather, collapse easily, and there's less risk of breaking or cracking.

They have some cool 3D print shave bowls out there but a little pricey for me...
I just use a med size clear mix bowl, works great......lather me crazy...
I just like about 5 x 4 bowl...prevent lather escaping.....
Drive me crazy when I see these guys with 90 dollar ( yes I am exaggerating) artisan soaps...and lather is spewing out of there tiny mug or bowl...lol

If you can get one of his bowls and brush soakers from his rare drops, thirsty badger has really high quality pottery with cool unique designs. You have to be on as soon as his drops hit tough because they sell out in like 10 minutes.

I load up in the tub, and then transfer to a bowl to get the consistency I want. Then I apply and lather more on my face.

For me it's about the brushes. I use my boars with a mug that holds one of my hard soaps. I hydrate the soap for a couple of minutes while the boar soaks. Pour out the water and start to build the lather... works really well. With my synthetic brushes I use a cream soap and a lather bowl or scuttle. Again excellent results. I can also use the synths with the mug/hard soaps as well. The boars don't seem to lather up as well with cream soaps, but with continued use maybe they'll improve.

I use a CaYuen Workshop Wet Shave Lathering Dish. Yes, a little pricey, but they are great for getting a terrific lather and they are shaped to hold the lather inside. I spill about a teaspoon of water off the top of my soap puck, which I soak while I shower, into the dish, add an almond size scoop of soap and lather for a minute or two with my brush. Great way to start my day.
