I would be very interested in seeing this proof. The more accurate timeline is that *after* Scott adapted a vintage shape into what we know as the Jefferson, Brett began making Jeffersons for people who requested them with Scott's blessing. Once Brett began offering custom tied knots and undermining Scott's business, he was asked to cease making the Jefferson shape which was never his original creation. Clearly he has decided against that course of action.

Obviously there is no legal standing here with regard to the IP of the Jefferson shape, but I personally find that irrelevant in a discussion pertaining to two friends and business partners where one was unexpectedly slighted by the other. At the end of the day, this is not a legal issue, but an ethical one and I am personally disappointed at how Brett has conducted himself as an artisan.

What’s this partnership? I never saw any signs of any sort of partnership. Perhaps with dogwood you could say there’s a partnership. Brett never had:

Knot discounts at dec

Seems like if anything Scott got lots of business from bretts customers sending him handles for knot services. What did Brett get?

Worst part is that Scott isn’t the one in here busting his chops about it - it’s other people. All this does is make Scott look bad, which is a shame.

I applaud the makers mark on the bottom as to enjoy the handle in its fullest. At least a medallion doesn't fade with time and I personally rarely stare at the bottom of my brush when in use or stored away. You don't see a stamp in the middle of a Rembrandt painting now do you?

Perhaps you should use a stamp on your artisanal wares lest someone duplicate your pours, and your business model.  Would be a shame to encourage that type of behavior, no?

The burden of proof is on Scott to show that he made the shape first. Brett went above and beyond by ceasing to make that shape for a period of time. Something that he didn’t need to do since you’ll criticize him either way with statements like “hand tied knots undermine Scott’s business”.

What you’re considering unethical is based upon your biases and opinions which are worth exactly what we’re paying to read them.

My bias and opinion is that you don’t like Brett because he pours a better blank, turns a better handle, and ties a better knot.
