For the most part, I have continued tracking gear usage in 2019 with a spreadsheet. I say "for the most part" because I recognized over the past 3-4 months that there were many more times where I had forgotten (or didn't have the time) to input my shave for a day and sometimes it was 2-3 days in a row. I'm thinking about setting up a new spreadsheet for 2020 and eliminating several of the things I've been tracking. Right now, I have about 20 different things that are entered each day. Maybe I won't forget to input data if I can get it to less than 10. On positive note, setting up a new spreadsheet gives me the opportunity to enter new formulas and start using a pivot table to its real "wet-shaving" potential
So...having tracked most every shave, here is what was used most often:
AS Brand: Chatillon Lux - 21% - absolutely no surprise here as I think I have around 23 of his scents
AS Scent: Fince Green Vetiver - 3.5% - this one was a surprise. I would've assumed CL Gratiot League Square would have been at the top
Blade: GSB - 39% - no surprise here, this one just seems to work in every razor I put it in and gives me great shaves
Brush Maker: Wild West Brushworks - 57% - no surprises here...i have 9 or 10 of Dererk's brushes
Brush: Wild West Brushworks - 10% - this was surprising until I started to think about it. This brush has a 28 Timberwolf and I have discovered this past year how much I prefer a 28mm knot. This brush is one of only two brushes in the den which have a 28mm knot and I'm not fond of the knot in the other brush.
Razor: Rockwell 6S - 31% again, absolutely no surprise here. This is my go-to daily driver and has been my #1 razor every year for the past three years
Soap Brand: Mystic Water - 14% - just like the 6S, MW comes in first for the third year in a row. Although if the numbers were based on the past two months, Shannon's Soaps (14 uses) comes in first by a large margin.
Soap Scent: WSP Summer Breeze - 6.5% - Summer Breeze was the easy winner in this category. I do love the soap but the main reason it came in #1 was due to the fact I used it as my travel soap. Otherwise, there was a tie for 2nd place (3.5%) between B&M 42 and MW Lily of the Valley - two soaps that I was able to finish off this past year.
The spreadsheet also indicates I shaved 335 days in 2019. What I found interesting is that only 4 of those "no-shave days" came in the first half of the year.
So what was your most used gear for 2019?
