So I got a sample of Mitchells Wool Fat bath soap as a gift when I just bought a new shaving brush from a vendor and I kind of like the scent. It’s sort of an old classic type scent but I like it so my question is does the Shave Soap have the same scent? I know I’ve been wet shaving for almost 18 yrs and I’m ashamed to say I’ve never used the shave soap.  If it smells like the bath soap I’d like to add the shave soap to the den.

Hoping someone who has both can let me know.

Thanks

Yep. What Dan said!

...and, Because 'soap' is such a broad term, you need to think mild immediately disappearing scented soap. Not Dove White, smell it for an hour later soap scent.

EDIT: Frank, you could probably shave with the bar soap if you really liked the scent enough. I would suggest heading over to Ethos Grooming Essentials first and picking up a tube of First Lather. Lol. Seriously, though, it would probably make the bar soap glide perfectly well. Just have a rehydrating AS ready.

Lol I might have to try that!

But seriously I’ve got a lot of soaps both new and old but the scent on the MWF bath soap is just simple almost old school soapy scent but I kind of like it but if the shave soap doesn’t smell like the bath soap then I’d probably pass on it as I’d be purchasing for the scent although I have friends that tell me it’s a good shave soap which would be a bonus.

To my nose the scent of MWF smells almost exactly like the touted Haslinger Schafmilch of which the latter is IMO merely a blatant copy. Both are "soapy" scented and remind me in a nice way of an older woman's perfume, but not in the "over the top" manner that Tabac smells like the inside of your grandma's purse.  Confused

Ok I just checked since I have a jar of Haslinger Schafmilch and although much weaker in scent than the MWF bath soap there is a strong similarity between them and it may be they bought the scent from the same fragrance house especially if MWF did not have an exclusive on the scent. I’ve seen it happen many times.

So maybe the scent in the MWF shave soap is not as intense as the bath soap scent.  I may just order a sample of it to try.

I won’t comment on the Tabac scent.

Thank you for the info! Much appreciated.

MWF has been around since the 1930s. Anything that long standing likely has been duped... Probably dozens of times. Look at Old Spice, lol.

Am I remembering correctly that the shave soap is known to be hard to lather? Someone who's used it more than a few times help me (well, help Frank)... Is this a soap you bloom?

I have read the soap has a bit stronger barbershop type scent. But I do not have experience personally with this.

It is a fresh, clean soapy scent... definitely not unscented.

I think I the answer is just get a sample.

I have some of my shaving friends that say once you dial in the lather it’s a good shave soap so worth a try.
