Menlo Shaving Nealon Razor - DFS Pass Around

I am pleased to start this new passaround thread for the Menlo Nealon razor. Thank you Jeremy Menlo Shaving  for allowing for the pass around. And thank you andrewjs18  for the go ahead.

Here is some background and information on Jeremy and the razor:

* Jeremy has a 15 year history in the manufacturing industry, where did all sorts of machining, including precision critical components for the aerospace and medical industries, as well as artistic pieces. Jeremy had been searching for something useful to make with his CNC skills.  Rather than just making another industrial widget in the machine shop he started learning about product and industrial design and quickly became hooked.  In 2020 (due to the corona virus pandemic) his employer moved their operations out of state and he decided it was the perfect time to start something new. Menlo Shaving was born.
* Jeremy grew up in Menlo Park, CA (pre the dot-com boom). The Nealon razor is named after Nealon Park, which is close to where Jeremy grew up, which has special significance for him.
* The Menlo razors are 100% USA made / made in California.
* Jeremy has not used a wide variety of DE’s and the razor is not a homage to another razor. Rather, Jeremy has just created, from the ground up, what the ideal, high-end, premium razor is be from his perspective without any preconceived biases or reference points.
* In this journey, Jeremy spent a lot of time learning what exposure and blade gap are and how head geometry really impact efficiency and smoothness. He brings an engineer’s perspective to the design of the Nealon.
* In terms of specs, the razor has a 1.14mm gap with +0.15mm positive blade exposure. The material is 303 stainless steel.  Blade clamping is rigid, with no chatter.
* The build quality is high; the razor has a full polish, not a machined finish. From an aesthetic perspective, the top cap has a beautiful scalloped finish (see picture).
* I always find it hard to compare razors to others, but if I had to compare the Nealon to another razor, for me, it would be a high-gapped wr2, somewhere in the 1.25-1.55 range, probably somewhere in between those two gaps. I believe my friend george1906  feels similarly. I think when compared to wr2, the Nealon’s head profile is slimmer and the blade feels more exposed. Both of theses differences I prefer.
* The shave, for me, is smooth and very efficient. I would characterize the Nealon as an aggressive shaver.
* The passaround razor comes with 3 handles (see pictures). My favorite was the “waffle” handle. All of the handles, for me, were knurled at the balance point.

This passaround is currently open to US participants. Here are the rules:

* To sign up, please reply below with your State. The passaround will follow this order.
* Keep the razor for 1 week before sending it to the next participant.
* safely package the razor and send it to the next participant with a tracking number, and insured for $200.
* Please write a review of your experience with the razor in this DFS thread. Please be polite / respectful, but honest feedback is appreciated.

I will mail the razor to the next participant early next week.

Thank you again, Jeremy for sponsoring this DFS passaround. You have built an excellent razor. It is my hope that this passaround will get your great razor into the hands of more wet shavers.

Cuz if i like it, i’ll want to keep it. Then i will have to move and change my name and be on the run always looking over my shoulder wondering if the federal marshals are looking for me. A little dramatic... but you never know lol
