I have two of those including a rare 'Club' one. There are pre-war type slotted ones and post-war types as well as it was/is a blatant Tech copy, but they do shave just a tad closer IMO.

Agreed.  In fact, I never took to the Tech and felt the shave wasn't particularly close. It is the complete opposite with the STAR, at least for me.

Wow, now I wonder if I missed something with the star. The Tech was fickle... Most of the time I didn't get a good shave. Hmm.

The Tech is a learned skill razor and that is not meant as an affront to anyone. I can get a BBS with a Tech any & every day if I am willing to do a 3rd ATG pass, but rarely do as it gives me some irritation. It has a "sweet spot", but it appears few can find it from all the reports of it being mild.
