Brian, it really is impressive when held. More impressive to me than the stainless steel version, in fact. Seems an even more considered design. Of course the truth will be in the shave for me, but not until my extended stint with the OneBlade is done. :-)

I got this discontinued Avon shaving soap today. It obviously was made originally for women, coming in a pink box and with instructions for shaving the bikini area. But its scent is pretty neutral and pleasant, and it is tallow-based, like the Avon shaving soap in a bowl that I have used, so I think it is worth a try. At 5 oz., it is good sized, too, a bargain for $6.34 shipped; I don't know yet what I'm going to keep it in.

Very nice looking razor! To be honest, I have never been all that keen to try the Mongoose based on the previous design but this version of the Alumigoose had me jump in. Just got an email from Brad at Maggard's confirming that I am on the list- they raced through the first 80 they received!

I don't know yet what I'm going to keep it in.

Time for the grater I'd say.

I like the vintage Avon shaving soap in a wooden bowl that is in my regular rotation. For me it has been good but not great, about equivalent in quality to Atkinsons, House for Men (HIS), MacGregor, Roger & Gallet, Williams, and Wrisley's. Not quite as good as Yardley, and definitely not equal to vintage Floris or Penhaligon's.

Received these three things in the past couple of days;

1) A Schick Super II DeLuxe
I personally really like the look of this old cartridge razor with its thin handle and gold details.
Introduced in the 1970's but it's still looking good for a 40 year old cartridge razor

2) Three shampoo bars of Mike's Natural Soap
This is the second year now where I am almost exclusively only using Mike's shampoo bars and my hair has never been cleaner

3) A vintage M-Bros 2 brush
This brush surprised me a bit when I unpacked it and picked it up - a much more 'substantial' feel to it than most of the other vintage brushes that I have.
A really nice weight and very, very smooth curves and lines.
I'm really pleased with it - as I think it looks and feels fantastic - but I'm fully aware of these vintage wood-metal brushes is not everyone's cup of tea
