If its your first and you do't want to blow too much $ Simpson Trafalgar T2 or T3
are inexpensive and very good performance for me. Bit soft though.

If your looking for a synthetic knot with great backbone, no flop and with a nice scrub to it, I would recommend a Paladin synthetic knot without question. Edwin Jagger STF is also quite good.

Not sure what the shipping would be to Aussie-land, but Italian Barber brushes are good entry-level brushes into the synthetic world. The Plissoft knot for me strikes a good balance of backbone and softness. Pretty decent prices with a variety of handles. I haven't gotten into any of the synthetics in the last couple years though (tuxedo, synbad, etc).

SynBad is the name Mr Andrew Palomo gives to Oumo Mother Lode.
As Gelousy is his name for Oumo Finest SHD Manchuria.
Different price is about custom handles and settings.
The same It's available just dropping a line to Oumo.
For a cheaper price.

Oumo Mother Lode (aubergine) and Oumo Black Mother Lode (Tuxedo Thin or Superfine) are my favs.
Being so thin fiber, It must be setted very low with a large knot. Mines are 28x50mm, and I love them.

I don't think SynBad and Motherload are the same fibers.

Yaqi Sagrada Familia and Razorock 400 Plissoft Noir. Both outstanding brushes for the price, with the latter being my personal favorite.

Omega Evo if the cost doesn't bother you is my choice out of synthetics, but I admit I'm a badger person more. Simpson Trafalgar is an excellent choice for a cheaper alternative.

I've tried several different synthetics and continue to use one daily and I always come back to my plissoft style knots. I've tried to like others but they tend to be too dense for my tastes.
