Here is the web page on the Trader Joe's site for the product. There is also a contact link at the bottom of the page. I'm sure they would be interested in any feedback. After all, they want their customers to be happy. Maybe also reference the review here and suggest an alternative brush and soap. Keeping in mind, of course, that low cost is key for a $9.99 shaving kit.

By the way, thank you for the review and heads-up.

There will always be unscrupulous folks who look to cash in on a trend.  Most people that would buy a kit like the TJ one above would likely buy it for someone else as a gift thus ensuring that someone else will, as you point out, remain with cartridge and can.  I don't know why I care whether some other dude has a great shave or not but I do.  Partly to save the world from cartridge and can waste and partly a belief that if more people started their day with a Damn Fine Shave the world would be a better place.  I really believe that.  I know that the lounge is the place for music but I wanted to post a song that embodies how I feel about it - Zac Brown Band Beautiful Drug or as I would say, Beautiful ShaveSmile

It has gotten mixed reviews. Most people don't care for the brush but the soap and balm seems to be ok by many.
Not sure why slamming a company based on one negative review.

darkbulb, good point.  Perhaps waiting a bit more would be wise.

It's understandable in a way - we're all passionate about our 'hobby' - but as with so many things this is also one of these YMMV situations. Smile

In my defense, I have to say that it reminded me of some of the inexpensive sets you see in Wal-Mart and I have not found them very good. As you point out, though, some like them.

I happened to be in TJ's yesterday and saw these, but after reading APBT"s review I think I will wait to hear from others to make an informed decision.

Saw this in my local TJ's. Still have no idea how the heck they can make a profit off all that when selling for only $10. I thought the ones I saw were boar, but I could be mistaken, I didn't look too closely honestly.

Most of the customers in their stores won't know the difference.  In fact, most of their gift recipients probably don't realize a brush and soap are an option.  At least such a gift will raise awareness.

Again, it is about awareness.  Most people will use the TJ shaving kit with a cartridge razor.  They won't know safety razors are a viable option.  If the gift causes them to Google the subject a little, they are likely to discover traditional wetshaving..

If the soap and brush are as budget as people are saying, they won't cost much to produce.

If I had a kid, I'll probably would buy this as an introduction to wet shaving, kind of like a play along type of thing. It is inexpensive so if the kid gets bored with it, oh well. :-)
