A mug full of hot water. I just dip the tip of the shaving brush while I face lather and in between passes.

I don’t fill the sink and a quick blast of hot water to clean the razor when shaving works.

While my bathroom isn’t large it has very high ceilings with a good exhaust fan that seems to work so well that even if I leave the bathroom door closed the whole while I shower ...the fan still removes a lot of the steam and I can feel like things are drying out during the shave after I get out of the shower. The last couple of weeks I’ve left the fan off and door shut while I shower and just trapped all the steam and I’ve seen a big jump in overall hydration and no signs of anything even remotely drying out. Actually the first time I’ve seen steam on my mirror. I took it a step further to experiment and I also ran my wife’s facial steamer to really amp up the steam in the room and it was worth the experiment. A ton of steam but well worth it. Not sure how often I’ll run the steamer but on shave days I’ll never run the exhaust again until I’m finished with the shave. Give it a shot.

I would say a good quality pre-shave oil, comfortable razor with good exposure preference, and alum / aftershave.

Peace and quiet from the wife - maybe some tunes and a pour of good firewater.
