Thanks for your input, grim! I’ll publish an updated list somewhere down the line, once there are some more votes.

Personally, I don’t think a poll like this is meaningless. There is no way everyone can use every soap (although I think CHSeifert and maybe some others are getting pretty close Smile), but it’s still nice to see which soaps are “trending,” and at the same time maybe see if there is something surprising or unusual on the list. I think it’s simply both interesting and fun. So hopefully more forum members post their favorite soap here. Happy2

Having said that, I am now only tracking the soaps — I have lost track of who has already “cast their vote”. I hope there aren’t too many “double votes” on the list. If there are — not the end of the world.

I don't think its meaningless either. I don't know the original motivation of the OP. I was only pointing out that I attempted to seek the opinions - crowdsource - and it was pointed out that such a poll is limited by the lowest common denominator. In other words, if you all you have tried is say Proraso, then that is going to be your favorite brand.

But sure, it is what it is. Smile

I do understand what the person who made that comment to you was trying to say. (I think.) But on the other hand — we could have a poll limited by the lowest common denominator, or no poll at all. So although the person had a valid point, I’d rather have some poll than no poll. Smile

Hoping to see more top soaps pop up here as time passes by!

Aren ALL polls limited by the lowest common denominator? Isn't that the point of taking a poll?...to get the widest possible variety of experiences and therefore, presumably, the widest variety of opinion?

A poll like this is, in my opinion, much more valuable than a poll that provides a selection of choices..."choose your favorite of the following"...

Just my rarely humble opinion...

Cutting Edge Soap

Polls like this are meaningless to a point. For example, the results right now would lead you to believe that Barrister & Mann is the best soap on the planet by a good margin. It's an excellent, very respectable performing soap but it's not my top pick. Soaps that are in the higher price range aren't tried by as many people so for something like PannaCrema Nuavia to get 23 votes as the best soap the odds would be slim because not as many people own it. So it won't make the top spot here even though I find it to be the very best soap I've tried.

Overall the list of soaps here isn't bad at all. Some I could argue but overall there are a lot of really great soaps listed here and not too many substandard ones. These poll results are better than most. Usually you get the flood of answers from people that have tried three soaps and rank Proraso as the best they've tried.

Acqua di Parma: 1
Barrister and Mann: 23
Beaver WoodWright: 1
Catie’s Bubbles: 3
Cold River Soap Works: 9
Czech & Speake: 1
Haslinger: 1
I Coloniali: 1
JabonMan: 1
The Los Angeles Shaving Soap Company: 1
Martin de Candre: 2
Mike’s Natural Soaps: 1
Mystic Water Soap: 4
PannaCrema: 3
Reef Point: 2
Sapone Di Paolo: 1
Saponificio Varesino: 2
Savonnerie du bon berger (SdV — Menthe): 1
Soap Commander: 1
Soapy Bathman: 2
Stirling Soap Company: 6
Strop Shoppe: 2
Tabac: 1
Tabula Rasa: 1
Valobra (hard puck — C&S/AoS): 2
XPEC: 1

Good points. Nuávia is one of those soaps that seems to become a favorite for many who have the chance to try it. But I also agree that this poll has some relatively good variation.

A lot of this also depends not only on soap price, but the location of the bulk of forum members (and thus, soap availability). I bet this poll would look drastically different if it were done on, say, a UK forum. There are of course many DFS users from all around the world, but I think this poll does reflect to a certain degree the fact that a lot of DFSers are located in the US.
