Further testing with the Le Maurice razor...

Today I chose the 316L stainless steel base plate with a 1.0 gap. Again, I decided to use the open comb on one side of my face while using the closed comb on the other. I really want to get a good feel for each type and any differences they may have.

I lathered up some absolutely amazing smelling Black Watch soap with my trusty Omega Boar. Seeing as it's still DecemBoar I'm continuing with the theme. I have to say though that this soap smells really good and produces a really luxurious, slick lather. I highly recommend this one.

I did a bunch of passes, I don't know how many. I did this because I rarely settle for anything less than a bbs shave and this shave was no different. With that said, I did enjoy this 1.0 gap over the 0.8 gap I used last time. I also felt less of a difference between combs on this base plate than the 0.8 gap.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this shave and am loving gaining experience with the lovely Le Maurice razor.

Happy holidays everyone. Enjoy your shaves!

For today's shave, I went with the Le Maurice 1.2 gap base plate. I again chose to use the open comb on my left side and the closed comb on my right.

There is a noticeable gap with this head compared to the 0.8 gap (and even the 1.0 gap) but that didn't put me off at all. I actually welcomed it.

My soap choice was the new to me, Denton-8 by Stirling Soap Company. This soap's scent is inspired by Spicebomb from Viktor & Rolf and is well, bomb! If you know me, you know that I just love cologne inspired soap scents and this one is right up my alley.

I did a four-pass shave and found that this 1.2 gap head produced a smooth shave more easily and with fewer weepers (only one today) than the other two gaps/heads.

The open-comb side, as expected did have a touch more blade feel than the safety bar side. I should disclose that under normal circumstances I tend to gravitate more toward open-comb razors. I just happened to like the extra blade feel they provide but with this razor, the difference between the open-comb and the safety bar side is relatively small in my opinion so I could see being happy with either type.

With a great bbs shave had, I splashed on some Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve aftershave to top things off. This one is one of my favs and is recommended if you're into vintage aftershave scents.

Rock on gentlemen and enjoy your shaves!

Aftershave: P.A.A. - Sacré Bleu

Today I decided to use all three of the Le Maurice heads in a step-down shave. After using them each individually I decided to try them all together in one shave.

I began with some absolutely amazing Sacré Bleu shaving soap from Phoenix Shaving. I have to say, this stuff is ridiculously good! Honestly, I think too many people slept in this one. If you even remotely like Aqua Velva or vintage shaving scents, do yourself a favor and pick this one up. You'll thank me for it. That is of course if it gets released again.

With my 28mm Yaqi Ocean synthetic I whipped up some luxurious lather and then went to it. I mean the brush is blue so I had to use it, right?

I started with the brass 1.2 head for my initial with-the-grain pass which went quite well. I used a light touch and the open-comb side to do the bulk of the hair removal before switching to the stainless steel 1.0 head. With this middle-of-the-road head, I did two across-the-grain passes. One in each direction. I then finished things up with the titanium 0.8 head. My against-the-grain pass and buffing with this head were good. I felt less irritation going against the grain after following this step-down method.

My shave was finished off with some glorious Sacré Bleu aftershave/cologne and I couldn't be happier.

I have to say that after using the Le Maurice razor for a bit, I think that overall it truely is a great razor. What Augustin has done is beautiful and truly deserving of praise. The level of artistry he's demonstrated with his superb machining skills should be appreciated and respected. The Le Maurice is a razor worth owning!

Alright my good friends. That's all for today. Take care and enjoy your shaves!

I'm going to have to pass on this one
sir.
I didn't realize I was still on it but thank you for the heads up.
Nice write up and I really like the labels on that PAA shaving soap you have.  That PAA label makes me feel like a kid for some reason looking at it, nice.

Alright, that's cool. Thanks for responding.

Yeah, the holographic labels are pretty sweet. I feel like I got lucky with this set as I received the holo label on both the soap and aftershave. I don't see that happen too often.
