Thanks to this thread, now I know about a lavender Barrister's Reserve...awesome! Anything you can share Will on the type of lavender you are using?

It's a re-creation of the famously rare Caldey Island Lavender, which is still in production but so difficult to obtain that it may as well be discontinued. It's actually my personal favorite of all of the finished scents.

Thank you for your response and sharing your inspiration. I will see if I can some reviews (maybe on youtube). Prior to my shave, I was checking out a video review on Invasion Barbare, the fragrance from Stephanie Bokouche. It was neat to hear about the base of Fougére Aromatique before shaving with it. I'm on a lavender appreciation kick as of late.

By the way, any really nice lavender fragrance made oils versus essential? Not looking for any brands, but simply wondering if it may be worth looking into some nice smelling lavandula.

For reference, famed perfume critic Luca Turin has gone on record saying that Caldey Island Lavender is the greatest lavender soliflor of all time. I don't disagree with this view, which was one of the major reasons that I was delighted to be able to obtain enough of the original to send it for lab analysis (went through absolute CONTORTIONS to get it).

Lavandula is actually not synthetic, but is instead a close relative of lavender that smells fairly similar. I'm not well acquainted with synthetic lavenders, though, as lavender is so cheap and readily available that they're somewhat rare in perfumery. I've never used a synthetic version myself, so I'm afraid I'm just as much in the dark as you are on the subject.

Champs de Lavande is a good one for sure.
