Still a great value. He should be raising his prices and I think they can go a lot further if the razor continues to gain attention. If you search on YouTube there are still very few Lambda razor reviews that are not from local users in Greece, so Lambda is just starting to take off and you’re getting in very early even with a $40 hike.

How much do you think that mahogany box ought to sell for if it was a separate product? And then how much is left for this superb razor within his current pricing?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for reaching out yesterday.  It was a pleasure to speak with you.  As far as the Lambda razors go, I have updated the listing this morning with the technical information I received from Lambda.  The razors are indeed, made from Bronze Alloy and hand polished.  The final price will be determined once we have paid the duties and taxes on the shipment and have an actual landed cost to reference.  We anticipate that to be somewhere in the low $200 range.  I will update the listing and provide more information the moment it is available.

As always, thank you for your patronage.  It truly means a lot to us.

Not saying it isn't worth more but be honest.....If you see them for $187 and then you go to buy and they are $229 it is a disappointment regardless. If you don't agree, feel free to take a match and light a couple 20 dollar bills on fire Tongue Big Grin

Theo undervalues his work. The razor is worth 2-3x, easy.

Sure. FWIW I understand that the shipped price from Lambda to US was €195 (€170 plus €25 shipping). That’s $203 at today’s FX. As I say, you may still be able to get one from Lambda directly, at the original price. But I expect the price of this razor will increase for the next batch - it is undervalued at €170. I think it is like buying a Wolfman when they were first released (except the Athena is probably cheaper if you consider the box), and we know the prices for Wolfmans today. There is no sense in feeling bummed that a Wolfman you buy today costs so much more than it would have 5+ years ago - it’s just the price, same for everyone. You choose whether you want to pay it or not, but you can’t go back in time.

Honestly, I want the price for the Athena to be higher. The current price isn’t sustainable or a fair reward for a business making high end razors like this. I want Theodoros to do well so that he continues to design and make new razors. That’s more in our interest than keeping his prices so marginal and discouraging his creativity and drive for high quality. We should want to reward what he is doing so that he does more of it, in my opinion. It’s not like he’ll be a millionaire from making razors any time soon.

You will forget about the price anyway pretty soon after you get it. And whatever price The Razor Company charges it will be a lot less than other comparable razors go for, so you’re making a saving if you take a glass-half-full perspective. If it stops you buying one then I bet you’d pay significantly more if you wait another year or two.

I agree and I would say we don't really want to encourage people raising their prices because something is popular.  If this razor really is as quality as you all say it is you should be applauding the maker for providing an inexpensive quality product not begging them to raise the price so you can resell it for a profit in 6 months.

They also cant raise the price much on this razor or this batch will be the only one that sells, or it will only sell to Lambda enthusiasts.  Once things start getting into the above 200$ range your getting close to the cost of some really quality stainless and titanium razors, that are long established and very open about their manufacturing processes.

I don’t think it is because something is popular, necessarily - that may apply to Wolfman but I think there are not many in this industry who can charge a premium because of their name. Everyone else has to charge in line with the market, based on how their product compares in quality. And some - like Athena - have to charge well below the market value because they are not yet known. I think it’s pretty clear that the Athena is priced well below the market price for a razor (and box) with this level of design refinement and finish quality, and the manufacturer will not yet be making a meaningful return on his time and financial investment.

Theodoros is making something really good. Maybe some are misunderstanding how cheaply he is selling this razor because the mahogany box is included and other manufacturers sell only the razor. If you consider just the razor, for comparability, I guess it is selling for around €100 - for a razor that is probably the most innovatively designed on the market today, shaves as well as any high-end razor, and has a level of quality and refinement in finishing that matches any razor that doesn’t have an extreme mirror polish.

How can we be quibbling about possibly $20 here or there for a razor that is so much better value than anything else? If we really like the product let’s pay the guy fairly for his work and his skill. I think this razor has a long way to go before it reaches a price that is comparable to the market.

The only established razor I can think of that shaves as good as this and is still priced low is the Karve Overlander. But the Overlander probably still sells for more and is nowhere near the level of finishing that this razor has, let alone the level of design and innovation of the Athena.

That's a lot of opinion there, and alot of hard selling, i think some people would ask different questions than you are. Like if the razor alone is worth more how is he able to include such a box and still afford to make the razor. Raising the price before being established in the market place and having a high demand could be a death sentence. If im trying to decide between 220 for this razor and a SS timeless, well I can find a lot more reviews and opinions about the timeless, or maybe Ill just eat the extra 50 bucks on a carbon SS because hey it's only 50 bucks.

I'm not saying this razor is bad or anything, Im not sure why you are so upset that people dont feel great about a price increase, unless you are employed by Lambda.

Not upset. Not employed by Lambda (and I think you know that). Just my opinions, and they are reasonable.

You can’t go wrong with a Timeless razor. I never heard anybody disappointed with the quality or consistency. I like mine a lot. The Slim 0.5 and the Bronze 0.78 OC are the standouts for me, but both very high efficiency razors, which is my preference. FWIW, I think the Timeless razors are better than the Carbon, even if the prices were reversed.
