Knowledge is power

Then how were people back in 1995/96 supposed to gain this knowledge of shaving while in the shower and then waiting 3 minutes after lathering on shave gel before they were supposed to shave then?  From 1996 to early 2000, how were people supposed to find such info online if you say it might have been REALLY DIFFICULT to obtain such information?  If razor manufacturers, soap makers like proraso, google searches, shaving forums, ect...  didnt even really bother to post such information, how could anyone get a hit online locating such shaving tip then?

I graduated high school in 1994. I used cartridges until about 3-4 years ago. I never shaved against the grain until I started DE Shaving. Finally, I was not taught to shave by my father, who was long gone when I was old enough to shave... I taught myself (and probably rather poorly).

All im saying is when people go online they gotta knowwhat to look for and where....  you gotta have at least an approximate idea of what to look for....  i ask myself the following question, what would it have taken for me to know what i know like 22 years ago...

If I knew then what I know now I would have an easier life and only 1 ex wife.

But in late 99/early 2000, could such shaving tip be found online and if so, where?  Where might such random tip be found?

There is an old saying..."pigs don't know pigs stink". Unless you know what you want to know, you will never get an answer. Today, you do not need to know precisely what you want to know...you just need to start looking in the "neighborhood", be persistent, and eventually you will be enlightened in some way that can help you. That is the beauty of today's internet.

The internet (information superhighway) as we know it today was in it's infancy between 1995 and 2000. In those days people did not typically rush to their computer every second of the day to answer every question they had...or to check on literally anything that popped into their head every few minutes. As a matter of fact, computers still were connected to very slow modems and you had to wait minutes for pages to load on your screen. Phones were typically not connected to the internet at that point in time. Forums such as this were hard to find and I doubt that any existed at that time. Youtube did not exist. Searching for information as we do today (desktops or phones), did not exist.

Therefore, it was impossible to get answers in real time to the type of questions about shaving (from a knowledgable community) which you have asked. Flash forward to a post 2005 internet, and many vast sources of information about nearly everything began to emerge. The last 10 years has spawned an internet which can answer or teach you nearly everything you could want to know. Today is very different from 10 years ago and totally alien to over 20 years ago.

All of this is about a "frame of reference" which depends upon when you were born. Learning processes and questions about history and life (transfer of knowlege) were only available from family, friends, and those who could teach you about what you wanted to know. I actually taught myself how to shave in the mid to late 60's and switched to disposables as soon as they became available in the early 70's. I finally learned to shave from youtube videos over 4 years ago. Without today's technology, I would still be shaving with plastic disposables and canned gel goo.

I remember dial up well. And not uncommon to get a busy signal, if your ISP was small town. Thank you for helping remind me what life on the web was like back then! My wife and I frequently stop a TV or movie to search out some topic or thing mentioned, and often say to each other what did we do before Google and smart phones?

You do realize that people lived their entire lives without the internet at all, not that long ago, right?  People learned how to shave by being taught by their fathers or by trial and error.  Probably some people discovered that for them, shaving was easier if done in the shower and if they left shave cream or gel on their face a little longer before shaving.  

I guess I don’t understand this obsession with finding some piece of advice that you might have seen online a long time ago.
