Vintage Shaver
Seattle, WA
On another forum, a shaver said that can't discern any difference in shaving quality between the King C. Gillette DE blades and the original Swedes, which I find very surprising. Has anyone else done a personal comparison of these two blades? Or perhaps a comparison of the KCG to the Personna 74 or the Wilkinson Light Brigade?
Thanks.

The Light Brigades feel a little sharper, only a little. There is a certain edginess that some blades have that makes me think so. They are definitely longer lasting, but not by some ridiculous amount. They are every bit as smooth, but more consistent across several shaves. This is one of those things that makes comparing vintage blades to modern difficult is that the modern Gillettes especially have a very different first shave from either the second or third depending. I don't like how they tend to sharpen up, I have to move them to a milder razor. I reluctantly have to vote for Wizamets as being closer in feel to the Light Brigades and other vintage blades, but with the usual slightly different first shave. I can believe that King Cs are nearly the same in feel as Swedes, but not in overall quality. Those may be even higher quality that Light Brigades from the reviews I have read, but I haven't been able to acquire any yet.
