It's sharp and it cuts. I like it...

I said "what the heck" and ordered OC plates in B, D & F. Looking forward to see how much of a bump these new plates give in blade feel compared to their SB counterparts. I'm actually hoping that the F in the OC iteration can give me an '11 Muhle R41 type like feel with enhanced smoothness. Maybe wishful thinking but, we'll see how it goes....

I ordered the E & F OC plates thinking they will be a bit more aggressive than the SB plates. I still only use the F SB plate. My E plate just collects dust but maybe the E plate OC will get some use. Looking forward to getting these!

I ordered my first Karve, and chose the B and C OC plates.  Chris's newsletter said the rule  of thumb was to drop down one letter from the SB to maintain the same level of aggressiveness with the OC, so for example, SB-D and OC-C plates are about equally aggressive.   My reading of the opinions I had seen was that the SB-C and maybe D plates were roughy middle of the road "shavewise" - not that everyone wants middle of the road - but I decided to start there, substituting the B and C OC plates for the C and D SBs.  I too am anxious to take them for a spin.

BTW, the SB-C and D plates are not middle of the road in terms of either Gap or Exposure - terms which Chris explains on the web page where he discusses plate selection and how the OC and SB plates compare.

For reference:
- '57 Gillette Tech measurements from another site (meticulous analysis of a single example): gap 0.59mm, exposure 0.09mm
- Blackland Blackbird specs originally posted on Kickstarter: gap 0.58mm, exposure 0.101mm

Karve is biased toward relatively wide gaps for the exposure. For example, the blade exposure of the '57 Tech is comparable to the Karve C plate, but the Tech's gap is slightly narrower than the gap of the Karve A plate (0.60 mm). The C gap is 0.85mm, but to me it feels very mild.

I’m surprised the tech has that much exposure. I thought it would be negative. I agree that the Karve plates feel mild for their gaps. I have the F plate and it’s not mild, but it’s definitely not aggressive. I would put it in the lower end of the medium aggressive range. It is efficient though.
