I know not many things in life are as YMMV as razors and wet shaving. Looking for some pros and cons from anyone that has tried these. I would be looking at grabbing a few plates to try. To be honest, I’m still learning exactly what I’m into as far as DE razor characteristics go. So the razor with the most variability would be a plus as well. Currently, I have a slim adjustable, super speed and a GC 84. The GC 84 is my newest razor and i really enjoy the shaves I’m getting out of it, albeit thinking I’d like a tad more aggression. At least on my face as my neck can be quite sensitive. I also have some vintage straights and a feather SS that I enjoy when the time permits.

Believe the hype, RAD is real.

I recently got the Karve and really its determining the plate that works for you...I loved the D SB plate...Just got the Yates to try and loved both the M and H plates.... Personally I think I will want to keep both for a while before I can even determine which to let go.

Yates was just love at first shave.... and I have only shaved with each plate once.

I have the Karve as well as the Yates and from what you’ve stated your preference are, I’d recommend the Yates with the M and H plate.

Also, since you’ve got the RAD and you enjoy the GC .84, highly recommend you pick up a Lupo .95.

Let us know what you decide and how you like it.

I personally prefer the Yates.
Something about the geometry that balances smoothness and efficiency.
My personal favorite.

I have tried the Karve and have used pates C - G SB and D,E&F OC, I found to get the efficiency I want I sacrifice smoothness. With the Yates I use the Hybrid baseplate as a daily shaver and use the OC side for my first pass and the SB side for the 2nd plus touchup. As a daily shaver I much prefer the Yates for smoothness and results.

Ditto! I’ve owned the Karve with 4 plates, and although I found it to be a well made and designed razor, I ended up selling it. Yates on the other hand was an impulse purchase, and I’ve been incredibly impressed with It. The first shave didnt do it for me, but I gave it another shot and it’s become one of those razors that I will never sell. Something about the geometry just works soooo well with my face. It’s the smoothest razor I own and efficiency is outstanding. I own both the H and M plates, but prefer the H.

Welcome to DFS, Runkle!

I own both of these, with the Karve B plate being The One for almost 2 years. Recently, I tried the Yates M as an impulse buy, and I agree with the others, it is really something. I have not tried other plates for the Yates, they are still in-coming. I tried a variety of Karve plates to find what worked best. I had no trouble moving them on the BST, for what it's worth.

Good luck and have fun! Weird to say that about shaving, who knew?!

I own both ... Karve "C" plate and the Yates with the Hybrid & H plates w/ shorter handle.

The Yates is the clear winner for me. Easily one of the best razors I've ever owned. Top 3 for sure.

I have both the Karve and Yates also (and like the GC 84 which you like as well). Both are great and you cant really go wrong but if I had to pick one, I’d go with the Yates as well. I enjoy the shaves with it very much. You can go with the H plate if you want more aggression.

I seem to be in good company on this one.

I purchased the most aggressive Karve plates and sold them pretty quickly. They couldn't get me BBS.

The Yates H plate is something truly special.

I recommend saving for that!
