KAIs can boost the efficiency of some razors because they are wider than normal, which increases blade exposure. They are smooth, but middle-of-the-road in sharpness.

Bic Chrome Platinum can boost the efficiency of some razors because they come out of the package very sharp, and they hold their edge very well. They are standard width, and not the smoothest.

Shimming the blade by trimming the edges off an old blade can also help, but I’ve never stuck with this approach for long.

Which of those will work best to boost a mild razor is a matter of trial and error and personal preference.

For a razor that is more inherently efficient, I like a more balanced blade that is smooth, sharp, and holds an edge well. Persona Reds work well for me, but there are many fine choices if you aren’t trying to push a mild razor into greater efficiency than it was designed for.

Thank you for sharing. I also like persona red. I will measure KAI blade.

KAI Stainless Steel is perhaps the blade I’d choose if I had to stick to just one brand and type. I second what sgarnett said – I have a razor that I find just slightly inefficient, and when I use a KAI in it, the razor works much better for me than with any other blade.

Also, the glue or wax dots on some other blades don’t keep me from using them, but I appreciate the fact that KAI doesn’t use any adhesive on their blades. The clean, unmarked blades also make for great shims after they’ve reached the end of their cutting life.

I have been using a Kai blade in a Razo Rock Game Changer .68 SB for the last four shaves. It smoothed out after the first shave, especially in the third and fourth shaves. This last shave was smooth and efficient. To me this is a very interesting transition.

For me, Kai is my top blade to use with the Blackbird.

Actually, it's normal as the PTFE (Teflon) coating is being slowly eroded via usage.

My first shave with a Kai tonight. Paired with my WR1 .74 & steep angle, the result was an efficient, smooth shave.

Teflon coating? We don't need no stinkin' teflon coating!

I am not sure I would want to use this blade with my Blackbird. This would add even more blade exposure to a razor with a lot of that built in.

I love it. Give it a try!
