Just got my AlumiGoose V2

My silver AlumiGoose V2 arrived yesterday from Straight Razor Designs. Last night I popped in a Feather AC ProSuper with two straight shaves on it. I'd had a close shave in the morning, so all I could do was a quick trial.

Initial impression: An amazingly mild yet effective razor. One pass plus touch-up gave me an effortless DFS. A couple of times I had to check to see if the blade was actually in there, that's how smooth it was. I usually like to feel the blade edge against my skin, so the Super blade worked well for me (even though most of the time I could barely feel the blade), but I imagine that many people would do well with the AC Pro or ProGuard blades in this razor.

I'll report further tomorrow, after I do a full three-pass shave against a regular growth of beard. I have a feeling that this could be the razor I go to on mornings when I only have 5 minutes to shave but still want to get in three quick passes. Stay tuned.

Really are great shaving razors and the Super Pros works well in mine for me as well. Also the slimmer head design seems to be a bit more nimble for me.

Yup, I like the pared-down design. "Nimble" is the word.
And, PS, I'm deeply impressed by the ProSuper blades. They have that Feather sharpness, but unlike the DE blades (at least for me), they're also smooth.

It certainly is an excellent SE razor for the money. I use mine with a Pro Super and a Roncel lined handle. Excellent combination. I hope the forthcoming ATT SE works just as well.

I like the AlumiGoose hex handle. It has a nice heft to it and feels secure in the hand. The AlumiGoose strikes me as sort of SE counterpart to the Standard DE razors. Both are well-made from anodized aluminum, both are mild yet effective.

I'm sure that the ATT SE will be a gem.

I have been seriously considering getting an SE and the Alumigoose is very tempting, however I find that the SE razor blades are much more expensive and I'm not sure if it's wise for me to expand my horizons further. I'm not in the CONUS so I'd go through more hoops when purchasing blades.

I heard SE blades lasts much longer than DE? Does this negate the upfront cost?

I'm fond of the Rockwell 6S, for those who have tried both, is the shave from the Alumigoose better in your experience?

The Feather AC blades are more expensive than DE blades, no question. I've only just started using them, but I seem to get 10-12 shaves per blade, as opposed 4-5 with DE blades. So it's still more expensive, although in absolute terms it's not much money, less than 10 cents a shave. I like the quality of the shaves enough to pay the extra nickel or dime.

I don't have the Rockwell, so I can't make a comparison with the AlumiGoose.

Quite a change from straight and DEvette shaving. It would be interesting to see what the same shaving time spent with the AlumiGoose V2 as the straight razor will produce. You could be making a case for the comfort, convenience and effectiveness of the AlumiGoose to replace the straight.

Has the Straight replaced the DEvette?
