I have a Weishi that my stepson bought me for Christmas. It's a TTO style razor and looks very nice. I shaved with it for a week straight after Christmas and to my surprise it felt good and did a good job. However, it is not as nice as my Edwin Jagger DE89 or Feather AS-D2. It's a great budget razor and does a find job at removing the hairs, but I find my other two razors to offer a smoother shave.

I don't see the problem with people wanting to have nice razors. I paid $30 for my DE89 and after dropping it in the sink once it has a dent on the side of the head. My Feather may have cost a lot more but it isn't going to dent or break if I drop it. I feel people should buy what makes them happy and, if they can afford a $200 razor or brush then have at it. As for the video, I highly doubt anyone using an expensive razor is going to suddenly think they've been duped and sell their razor. Also, if I'm not mistaken the Mad Scientist has a Mongoose, a Futur, and probably many others. I didn't watch the videos but I saw he has done reviews of them so I assume he bought them.

John must be one of the most informative guys there on YouTube, very in depth, but I think his forte is more on vintage razors. In any case, I just pulled the trigger and ordered one for myself just to see and test it out. The only TTO I have is the Parker 92r and I didn't like that one very much, I just hope this isn't the same as that.

I'm a bit confused though, he says it's made out of copper? This is the description of the one I got:

Specification:
razor
Model:Weishi-I
Material: Deluxe Chrome
Net Weight: 123.1 g Or 4.31 oz
Net weight:123.1g
Color:Bronze

Deluxe chrome??

Weishi used to get a lot more online airtime when I first started wet shaving. I have one in gold finish that I have had for 7-8 years and use as a travel razor. Decent shaver, hard to make a mistake with and although perhaps not the most efficient definitely gets the job done. I typically use it with a Feather blade for best performance.

I had been using a brush and shaving soap/cream for a few months but had continued to use my Gillette Fusion because the thought of an "open" blade razor like a DE was still intimidating to me.  When I finally got over that fear, I did not want to invest a lot of money in a razor, in case I didn't care for the experience.  As Kevin (kwsher) points out, the Weishi was getting a lot more chatter when I decided to try a DE.  Not knowing anything about DEs and thinking they all shaved pretty much the same, I went by price and the Weishi was dirt cheap.  To my surprise, I was amazed at the wonderful shaves I got (though the Dorco blades that came with mine were quickly shown the door).  That encouraged me to try other razors, especially vintage Gillettes, SEs, Lather Catchers, and Injectors and I have never looked back.  I no longer use that Weishi but I shall never part with it because it helped lead the way into a more complete wet shaving experience. I'd have to see the model. On Amazon there are several to choose from but I don't see a Model I. Also, the weight you listed my be the complete weight with package because mine only weighs 72g. There is a copper model which weights 2.2oz. Mine is the gunmetal color. If it weren't so long, over 4in, I would use it more often. Thus, I would opt for the shorter 3.5in model. Now that I look at the options I wouldn't mind having the black PVD model.

This is the one he is talking about. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Bronze-D...SwaA5Wjk2Z

When I first looked at it the price was $9.64. Now looking at the link again it is over $10 and 26 have been sold. Guess his viewers made a few purchases. This is supposedly a newer Weishi. The one I held in my hand at a friends house a few years ago was a really light piece of junk (Just based on holding it I didn't shave with it).

I bought one just for the hell of it.

That wasn't my intention. I'm not going to drop my wolfman or ATT over it. I think it is funny as hell when high end badger owners blow a gasket when somebody says they like their synthetic just as much if not better than their thater.

I didn't think so considering your avatar. I was just responding to the video.
