Is there such a thing as a light, durable razor?

At first the blade gap felt very aggressive and harsh. I was about to sell it....

.... But my techniques improved and the standard is part of my rotation due to its efficiency. It's one of the few Razors I can get away with only one or two passes, but I've got to be focused.

You can always get an aluminum handle. I have a few and they are very light and much lighter than the stock EJ handle.
Also, there is Titanium, but that will, usually, be much more expensive.

Are there any readily available modern ones? I'd be most interested in something that uses the standard threading, that can be used with a variety of heads...

There's also the Merkur bakelite razors (MK030) that weigh only 15 grams @ 1/2 ounce.  For vintage razors the WWII Gillette Tech had a bakelite handle I believe.

Yes, I've seen that one, looks interesting. It's so light that I suspect the handle wouldn't work well with other heads, though.

Depends. The MMOC is known to be aggressive. Earlier models (like the Ever Ready 1914 or 1924) have been labeled as aggressive, but I find them to be very efficient and smooth - not harsh. Also, the razors show alot of the blade and are loud (little scraping toast) - which might also give the impression that they are aggressive/harsh.

If you want an SE that's a bit more mild than the 1914 or 1924, the 1912 models or GEM Damaskeene are also very good. Other GEM models like push-buttons, featherweight, and g-bar were too mild for me.

Those might be things to look into. Lots of people describe the ikon 102 as mild & comfortable, but I switched back to an EJ because I was getting lots of razor burn from the ikon..

Featherweights are mild, as are later versions of the Schick Injector. Just today I ordered a Fine Slant, which is apparently made out of Lego-like plastic and weighs in at 15g.

Also, worth checking out are the Ikon aluminum models.

Aluminum is the way to go. The Standard gets rave reviews. Beyond that ... it's a long shot, but if you ever have the opportunity to acquire any UFO razor handle in aircraft aluminum -- jump on it. Pair it with the head of your choosing. You'll be in shave heaven. Here's a UFO Kaiser in aircraft aluminum, with a 2011 R41 head. Great combo.

This is an affordable option.

Mongoose makes a very pleasant Alumigoose. Lightweight, and a relatively mild shave.

This is a great option also, but he didn't state what he wanted to spend. If $$$ is no object he has A LOT of great options.
