Keep in mind not all blades are created equal. Depending the razor you'll discover just how unequal they are. The irritation factor is going to be more so due to technique than blade edge when dealing with either extreme of a overly mild or aggressive razor. Mild it will be between sharp edge vs not so sharp edge, i.e. something like Feather blades vs everything else. To mild you'll be jabbing that razor into your face with a lot of pressure but very little cutting edge hitting the face, no irritation but no close shave either except with a super sharp edge like a Feather blade. The other extreme of aggressive every blade will be a face burner with very little pressure. With that said blade edges work about the same in a razor somewhere in the middle using sufficient pressure but not overdoing it.

With that said the most irritation free blade I've used would be a Ladas stainless steel blade. It is not my regular use blade but I've used in a cross section of razors and it was always smooth no matter how aggressive the razor, didn't cut as close as Bic Chrome Platinum which is my go to blade but it was consistent in it's smoothness just like a Bic is consistent in it's sharpness from shave to shave until it isn't.

Thanks for reply and you said it well on all
Factors and I agree with you 100%.

When I use my WS-D2 razor which is feather razor wooden version paired with feather blade it’s a blood draw and my skin irritated like no tomorrow

Using same razor with Tiger Platinum no irritation
Shaves Amazing no nicks or cuts just give you example is it me maybe?? But I see difference in blades for sure and I have sensitive skin..

Anyhow everyday something new to learn that’s for sure and room for improvement.

Gillette blades have held the throne in my den. Gillette platinum, nacet, silver blue, permasharp, you name it.. they are all great blades.

I don't believe there is such a thing as an irritation free safety razor blade. The only way to achieve an irritation free shave with a safety razor is to have good and proper technique.

When I got started in this required hobby I tested well over 30 DE blades. Out of those only a few made the cut. They were generally the sharpest blades. The rest of the irritation free equation came down to technique and that includes a properly made lather. BTW, some of those blades I tested wouldn't have worked for scraping windows IMO, yet some people can use them. I used to marvel at how that can be, then I just realized that we're all different. Big Grin

OK, having written all of that, once proper technique is nailed down try a SE razor. They needn't be expensive, vintage SE razors work fine, but ask in that forum as many are extremely aggressive. The blade doesn't chatter at all and is IMO far superior to the much less rigid DE blade. Even when dull it just stops cutting efficiently and doesn't chatter and bite. Just a heads up, when a Gem SS coated 3 facet blade is new it is incredible sharp, much sharper than what you're probably accustomed to. Technique must be perfect. After a few shaves the blade calms down and technique can get a bit slack, then you're good with that blade for the next 20 shaves or so.

But with either type of razor technique is #1.

I agree with ShadowsDad and I’ll also throw in the fact that for me, some blades work better in certain razors and not others do you need to experiment and don’t discount a blade because it was rough in one razor. Try it in your other razors if you have more than one. Keep notes because you’ll forget. Until that unhappy moment when you remember. It sounds like a lot of work but what else are you doing? You want a decent shave you practice technique and you experiment with numerous razor and blade combinations until you find what makes you happy.

I don’t think so. Unless there’s a glitch of some kind, I can see deleted posts as well as normal posts whether they’ve been deleted by mods or the op and I don’t see any evidence of deleted posts in this thread.
