Another comment on ingredients causing trouble. I've had soaps where I thought there was an ingredient that was causing trouble for me, when the issue turned out to be that I was getting a little sloppy with technique, pressing too hard, and thinking there was an ingredient that I didn't agree with.

Good point, Pete!

Another thing I thought of was sometimes if I'm not familiar with a soap, maybe I don't quite have it dialed in and the slickness or protection isn't what I'm used to, I might experience some irritation. I might experience some irritation if my skin isn't in great condition(dry or previous rough shave,) too. Also, don't shave angry! Confused Nothing good comes of that!

+1 on never shaving angry - especially with a straight.   Sad

Some shaving soaps and body washes burn. Irish Spring Gear Body Wash 3 in 1 is probably the worst I’ve found. It sets me on fire in places far-removed from shaving ....

RR P.160 and Declaration Grooming soaps sometimes burn a little when I first lather up, but then it subsides.

Otoh, Nivea Men Cool 3-in-1 Body Wash never burns at all despite the menthol, even if my skin is already irritated. I sometimes use it to shave in the shower or while travelling.

Cinnamon in Stirling's Bay Rum splash set me ablaze. I was good with the soap tho.

Their Rose soap didn't sit well...which was OK because neither did the scent.

All other Stirling soap/splash combos have been fine.

Not sure, but some of the TFS soap burns my face a little, suspect the citrus
