I know there is a thread here about Soap Commander but I want to talk a bit about it. It doesn't get much attention here yet the value for money is, IMO, way up there - if value is important to you.

Up front, I am not a fan of the soap names. Names like "Courage", "Honor", and "Vision" tell me nothing but I guess that's the company's right. Moving on, my assessment of the technical attributes important to me - IN GENERAL.

Scent Strength is reasonable. You will notice it.
Scent Dissipation is good. For the most part, it stays with you the entire shave and does not dissipate into nothing or degenerate into generic "soap"
Scent, is of course personal. I find their Old Spice emulation to be the best attempt of all the Old Spice "tributes" I have tried (7).
Slickness is average. Some are better, some are worst.
Residual slickness is average.
Cushion is excellent, nearly on par with Klar (which I believe gives me the closest shaves)
Ease of Lathering - trivial, it explodes in lather
Hydration -Average, some better, some worse
Lather Feel (How luxurious does the lather feel) - Very good, better than the average soap
After Shave feel - Average

Usually I don't discuss cost but in this case I said "if value is important to you". Coming in at $2.50/oz this is clearly a soap selling BELOW the average cost based upon unit cost (my analysis of over 230 soaps had an avg cost of $3.99/oz and median of $3.25/oz).

Every time I use these soaps, I get one of the closest shaves (second only to Klar). They smell good, scent is of decent strength, and the cost is VERY reasonable. If you are looking for an inexpensive but good soap, I have found Soap Commander to be right in the middle of what I call the normal curve of soaps I have tried. It's Good Stuff. Of special note is their superior customer service. I always get a handwritten note. Always. They appear to be sincerely appreciative of business. These are good people.

Also of special note is their seasonal scents. They don't just pick something and tell the consumer, for example, "this is our Winter Scent". Rather, they crowdsource the scent in blind testing allowing consumers to be part of the process. Good stuff and a powerful way to use the Internet. It's always more powerful to take the opinion of many people than just have a few people decide what the customer wants.

SC soaps are really great value and lasts a long time. The Courage and Fall scent I have here isn't my favorite scent, but I do have big hopes for the Honor (barbershop) and I'm definitely going to buy one. Hopefully it becomes available through merchant websites.

Big fan of Endurance, Courage and Serenity. I like everyone else can say nothing but good things about their customer service which is top tier in this hobby.

Thanks for yet another good write-up, grim! This is another soap maker whose products I have yet to try.

While I agree with you that the names Soap Commander has chosen do not reveal much about the scents, I think that on the other hand it is refreshing that there’s one less soap maker with a Barbershop, Bay Rum, Sandalwood, etc. (At least most of their soaps seem to have a closer description of the scent components underneath the name of the soap on the container itself.)

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

Their Honor scent has become my daily go-to since it came in the mail. It smells amazing! I would describe it as a very clean Maggard London Barbershop (not as marine scented). I don't know if the formula has changed, but I tried Respect when it first came out and hated it. Since then, I have steered clear of SC, which was a huge mistake as it has been performing extremely well for me across all of my different brushes.

They also just restocked Honor AS Balm (it was sold out for a few days), and you better believe I snatched that up. This is one of those scents you love to hate because it makes you not want to use any of your other products. I'm sure that will fade, but in the meantime I'm absolutely loving it.
