I have both, love both, I'd like to know......


which to you find more Agressive and which gives the better shave

That's a hard one. Used to its fullest the R41 can be either aggressive or not. The Ikon Tech just is aggressive. It was designed to be just that, I think Greg calls it a 4 out of 5.

The R41 (2013 version) can actually be a very reasonable and mild shaver. Taking your angle from the cap creates just this, in fact it can give a great daily shave this way. I think the challenge and why the R41 has developed its reputation is the faux open comb design with the curves at the bottom. The roll makes it deceptive and I think many roll too far into the base of the comb, which really ratchets up the aggression on that razor. All the other usual caveats apply -- pressure, lather, prep, etc.

They both used within the parameters of what makes them different give a great shave.

If there is any confusion around the Ikon Tech it's comparing it to its vintage sound alike. A Gillette Tech it isn't. The Gillette you can literally shave with half asleep and not hurt yourself and achieve a great three pass shave. I wouldn't suggest the same approach with the Ikon.

So for the SOTD I revisited the Ikon Tech, mostly because I was thinking about your question. I still say it's a great razor and I love it. Treated right I don't think it's overly aggressive, but really pay attention to how you use it. To me it functions much like a cattle scoop on the front of an old train. The leading edge is basically a wedge. Also sharp blade vs. not as sharp makes a huge difference in the razor.

For the ultimate question of which gives a better shave? I still think they are equal but different. If I had to pick I might personally give a slight nudge to the Ikon.

I own both and the Tech is without a doubt more aggressive.

I need more time with the Tech, but so far the R41 give me a better shave.

I have both the Tech and the R41 (have used both the '11 and '13). My experience is that the Tech seemed overwhelmingly more aggressive initially, but a much lighter touch, steeper angle and slickest lather I could find (actually, the Nancy Boy doesn't lather a lot, but what it does do is protect and moisture) collectively made this a much coveted instrument for me. Not a daily driver perhaps, but I take it out for a drive about once a week. 

In terms of overall efficiency, to me, both the R41 and Tech are pretty much two-pass shaves for BBS or DFS+.

I agree with you in either of these razors a the sharper the blade the better.  Love the cattle scoop analogy, also very close to spot on.

For me the IS Tech outperforms the R41 in every aspect except face feel (and the Spitfire R41 is still a gorgeous thing).

And what's more aggressive than the IS Tech? The devette!

The Tech is more aggressive than the R41 and Fatip. I used it today for the first time, this razor needs no pressure at all. It's by far the most efficient razor I've used.
