The OSS is a good handle but I don't care for the length; somehow ended up with several which is ironic.
Sometimes the OSS handle just happens to be matched with the razor you want - I'm de-OSS-ing my fleet. I'm considering having Jay at Delta Echo Coatings do something to the ikons I have. The ikon bamboo handle on my RR Black Mamba looks very cool in black.
Strange thing, ok maybe not - when I went in yesterday and bought the ikon bamboo handle at Fendrihan.ca they were priced at CDN$49.00. Today they're CDN$54.00. I'm guessing sales of the bamboo were brisk so fendrihan adjusted the price. The price for the OSS stayed the same, CDN$42.00. The price is pretty much equivalent on the .com site.

That's a good idea to reach out to Jay at Delta Echo Razor Works . Like you, sometimes the razor just comes with OSS [my first Mamba for instance; at least that one is black].
I have a couple OSS handles that have never been used and I thought I may PIF but might rethink, get selfish and have Jay do something super cool.

I think it would be worth a shot, one of the DFS members uses only Feather AS-D2 razors and he has several all tricked out by Jay. They are really nice and you can do similar stuff with any stainless steel razor. Stainless steel makes good razors but its a bit plain.
My Mamba came with a bamboo handle - I don't recall being given a choice, being in such limited supply when one was offered you took what you got.
Its interesting that those RazoRock razors, black mamba, baby smooth, stealth - all seem to be highly regarded and there seems to be unrequited desires/demand for them yet IB doesn't make them. My imagination cooks up all sorts of reasons why they're not made but at the end of the day I suspect the numbers just don't justify making them. Too bad, that black mamba is one of my favourites.

churchilllafemme has some extraordinarily cool ASD2's and handles for sure.
I didn't have a handle choice either. First came with OSS and I like [love] the razor so much that I was lucky enough to get a back up from Joe which shipped with Bamboo. Very much prefer the Bamboo though.
I can't speak for Joe but imagine it was also a headache dealing with everybody's wants, desires, expectations and the inevitability that not everyone would get a razor leading to disappointment.
Would be cool if the Mamba become a full production razor as I think it that good so that more could try one but from my understanding that is not likely to happen.

I had an exchange with Leisure Guy on his blog on the subject and considering all the issues that you mentioned if there was money to be made than some arrangement could be arrived at. I would think that Joe could license the razors to a reputable manufacturer/vendor and retain a royalty. Its possible that margins are so slim and the market so competitive that it can't be justified in a manner that can guarantee quality. You've seen how many razors have been hitting the market lately? There will always be those who figure they can take a unit over to a factory in China and have them knock it off and they'll make money. I'm not saying that Chinese factories can't produce quality items, they can but the cost is higher and the margins slimmer. When quick profit becomes the only factor then low quality is assured. All I know is that I'm hanging on to my RR black mamba.

isn't that how this hobby always works out? I mean, does someone REALLY need 30 razors, 20-30 brushes and a cabinet full of soaps & creams?

Well said andrewjs18 and you're absolutely right. I can't seem to quit chasing shiny objects though
