I'll only trade with people I know, who I've dealt with before, have feedback from one or many people I've previously dealt with before.

The other thing with trades is when you have high end items to move you rarely get offered high end items in return and that gets annoying telling people no I don't want that item for the 5th time.

I somehow don't feel trading worth enough a shot. For someone fussy as me, it's very hard to like what other person is trading or will accept what I have to offer as something of an equal value.

Long shot for two individuals to like each other's stuff and agree to ship respective items and ensure safe delivery.

There is always a risk of items never reaching the other party. Who is going to be responsible for that crap which is seen happening more these days?

I personally prefer selling to trading.

For both trading or buying - use caution and common sense. Scammers have found the wonderful world of wet shavers.

As relatively new to wet shaving trading can help you quickly narrow down and figure out what you like and don’t like with less of an impact on your wallet. I agree that a PayPal transaction with G&S always alleviates some stress. I was just talking with a shaver about trading away some Santal Auster I can’t use and I did start to wonder. Maybe I’ll keep trades under a certain dollar value to avoid too much concern on either parties behalf.

I’ve had no issues ever! But I’ve only ever traded on the FB groups so far. New to the forums.

I have made a few trades, just two, I think. They went well. I traded with established members, indeed mods. These were less-expensive soap/as products. Expensive brushes and/or razors, I wouldn't even consider trading.

I've initiated & responded to several trades, none have gone bad. After reading this thread I should, perhaps, consider myself fortunate. I will continue to offer or respond to trade offers. But the items are under a certain dollar figure so I'm not out hundreds of dollars if the transaction goes bad. I like the suggestions about participating in trades only with established members with good feedback.

Living on the edge
There are some members who interact, meet and talk in person off the forums.
They send each other razors worth thousands for testing and trying and so on.
I can totally see trading between such individuals going on at a roaring pace.
Anything else, you have to do your diligence. I have sold some high end stuff
and usually send the buyer an email detailing the item and photos
of it from every possible angle. Only when they approve to the terms do
I then send them an invoice via PayPal. The idea is to protect both buyer and seller
as much as possible, from every angle, because Paypal often rules in favour
of the buyer unless the seller has a watertight case.

If I have a choice I prefer to trade with someone I've had a previous BST transaction with, or that at least has some trading feedback and consistent post activity. I definitely feel more comfortable if its someone that I know posts on multiple shave forums (not that scammers couldn't do that, but gives me more of a comfort level if i'm familiar with seeing their posts in different places). For my part I keep my handle the same across the different boards and let people know that they're welcome to research my history if they want.
I don't have any of the high-end items like Wolfman etc, but like others have mentioned I probably wouldn't do a trade with something like that unless it was someone I knew personally!

I would trade comfortably with people that I know and have had experience with. Other than that if I were to trade a high value item I'd likely break it up into two sales. After all that's really what a trade is.

For example, instead of trading a Wolfman razor for an expensive Wilborg brush I'll sell you the Wolfman for $500 and you can sell me the Wilborg for the same $500 amount as well. This would give us both some recourse in the event that one of us didn't live up to our end of the bargain. Sure some Paypal fees involved but the risk to us both is minimized for a few dollars in fees.

If they didn't like this idea then they are welcome to send their item first and once it's received I'll send mine. My reputation means more to me than any shaving item and they are welcome to research me if they'd like to. I'm just not going to assume a high dollar risk with someone that I don't know.
