I ordered the BB on Friday. Within ten minutes of ending the call with Shane, I got an email confirming the sale. Within the hour I got another email: the razor had shipped!
It arrived today. It's beautiful. I love that I can see the striations in the steel. This is functional art. Like a great watch or fountain pen.
After a shower I put in a Gillette Blue. I like that blade but it's not my favorite. I lathered up with Darby using the puck. I like Darby, I like Arko, and I wanted to see how the razor would do with a soap that's excellent but not superfatted and slick as a Bible salesman.
I could feel the blade, as I expected. It was utterly comfortable, never felt harsh or like it was about to gouge me. I found the angle immediately. And I had one of the best three pass shaves of my life. Even on my upper lip I had no irritation and only one tiny weeper that stopped when the cold water hit it.
By way of background, my den includes the Timeless OC .95 and .68; the ATT M1, M2, R2, S1, S2, and SE; the Dart; a Wolfman with the original head (I don't recall the blade gap, I bought it when James was just beginning to rise to fame among shave nerds); Feather AC shavettes; a Feather AS-D2; a Supply SE; and a bunch of vintage Gillettes ranging from SuperSpeeds to Fat Boys. I don't want to rush to a conclusion, having only used the BB once. I want to see if I can use it daily. I tend to think I can.
Preliminarily, though, and keeping in mind that I don't want to be influenced by the extraordinary customer service Shane provided, I would say that the BB is my favorite DE.
UPDATE (24 July 2020): I had my second shave with the BB today. Same Gillette Blue blade. I used Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes Shave Cream. Taking into account that the new toy factor is still in effect, I had probably the best shave of my life. No exaggeration. Even on my upper lip, which tends to get irritated and full of weepers when I go ATG, it was smooth sailing. Three comfortable passes and I'm BBS. The BB, for my face, is the perfect razor.
