My father had a moustache but not nearly as elegant as your avatar.

He and us kids used to call it his "soup strainer".

When Gillette Blades and Sloan's Liniment appeared from the medicine cabinet they were called, quite irreverently,
"Joe Stalin".

That was a few centuries ago in the 1940's.
