Very complimentary article, overall-congrats, Mohammad.

Don't know if it's just me but the pics in the article of the lather on the brush looked very bubbly and a bit thin. If I had to guess, I think he may not have loaded enough soap on the brush. In my experience with all three of the soaps that he reviewed, while they CAN handle quite a bit of water, I wouldn't call them particularly thirsty.

I was thinking the same thing Michael. I know I'm not alone when I say this (especially judging by some of the pics in this thread), but I get a lot better looking lathers than that from GD soaps.

Those lather shots really don’t do the soaps much justice, and I’m a bit surprised they were even published.

They look similar to “ad agency lather shots”. That is, new artisan hires advertising agency to prepare visual materials to promote products. Ad agency asks intern to lather the soap for shaving photos. Intern has never lathered anything before. The model who was hired to fake the shave has never lathered anything before, either, but got the gig because of relationship to ad agency owner. New artisan gets photos where the shaving model’s skin is showing through the lather. Ad agency collects hefty fees, artisan is left with a bunch of shaving photos that look like they were taken by an … ad agency.

It seems like this guy likes his lather like that. You can see that on his videos. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OD4rfYM26NY
Why? I have no idea.

Or.....after trying for a while and being unable to generate a respectable lather they ditch the actual artisan's soap and use some canned burma shave for the pictures and the model has a 2 inch deep Santa Claus beard of lather on his face for the pictures. Big Grin

Yeah, tired me should have just gone to sleep instead of typing that silly comment. I seek a certain lather for safety razor shaves, but straight razor lathers can be a different thing altogether, and from the video, it’s obvious that the fellow knows what he is doing. Also, a razor from the 1700s … wow, that is just amazing.

I think most straight razor shavers emphasize glide over cushion for their lather. Almost 100 SR shaves in, I find that unless the lather is almost 'pasty', I can handle it. In my experience, a well-hydrated lather does the trick for any kind of blade.

This is my SOTD today, and I've put a lather shot with the Wonderland below it. Less than a 30 second load on the brush, and maybe a minute in the bowl. The lather, although glossy, had plenty of glide and worked very well with the razor.

Michael P, great photos, and that lather looks like it can handle anything that gets thrown at it.
