Thanks so much for that info on the spring. Now I just need to find a nice Gibbs #17, haha.

Try the French e-bay, that's where I got mine from.

I received 10 springs this morning, they are a little taller and stronger than the original (the one it came with), but they fit perfectly. I don't know what to do with 10 springs, if anyone in Europe wants one, please PM me.

I currently have two # 17’s and at one time had 5 in both #15 and #17 and I’ve taken all but one NOS one apart and just checked out all the photos of the ones I’ve sold along with the ones I have and all of the springs are a silver SS. None of them have a black spring. So hope that helps.

The Gibbs is to me my favorite adjustable razor as I find it has a perfect balance of efficiency, smoothness and maneuverability.

I usually modify 4-5 blades at a time and because I’m not using it daily those blades last a long time before I have to do more.

Ela Kypro,

My favourite razor; the GIBBS No. 17. Love this little chap. Smooth, effortless, perfectly balanced and screams 'quality'.
I tried first using scissors to modify a DE blade to fit.
Success rate was almost zero; cutting through every blade or the cut was uneven.
A little better success rate once I purchased a 1/8" hole punch, but still could not obtain a 100% even notch or guaranteed not to cut through at least one end of the blade.

What if I can clamp a couple of DE blades together? Add an original proprietary blade on top to use as a template to guide the punch? I only succeeded in ruining two blades at once!!

Then I had one of those EUREKA moments; DREMEL!!
I clamped the DE blades vertically into a Flat cheeked engineers vice, and using the original as a guide, gently filed away the edges to form the notches. I made certain to place the bottom of the OE blade notch to line up with the top of the vice head to prevent me from filing too far. Eventually, I went as far as filing 7 blades simultaneously; and ALL identical to the original proprietary blade.
