Geoducks ('gooey-ducks') are giant Northwest U.S. clams that are wonderful to eat if tenderized correctly. My wife and I had some yesterday with some friends, who had hauled them out of their freezer, thawed them, skinned them, pounded them flat with a mallet, breaded them, and pan-fried them in garlicked olive oil. Yum. This reminded me that I had some really old images of geoducks from my past. So, from the wayback machine, here I am (in the maroon sweatshirt) digging them up in 1973.

I enjoy seeing the vintage pix. Many of us have changed our looks.

If they are as high in cholesterol as our far smaller "piss clams" they are just poison to my new heart piping as much as I would like to taste them.

There's so much I just can't eat anymore, or if I do, just a very small amount. (basically if it tastes good without anything being done to it, it's either too high in fat or sodium and a no-no)

Great pics.

In the first one is the girl in the white shirt kneeling or has she sunk into the muck?

She's kneeling. You can see from my posture in the second image that you need to dig 2-3 feet down to get the clam.

That's why I askes. You are elbow deep. Thought she might have sunk to the same depth. Though as I think about it, that would not explain why the heavier males not sinking. Smile

Poison? You might want to do more research there, clams, oysters, and muscles boost good cholesterol, and are extremely low in fats that increase blood cholesterol.
