Of course he may never write with it, but, I wanted to "plant the seed" and try and get him hooked on pens. As a School Superintendent he should have a good looking pen! So long story short, I ordered a Jinhao pen and they had a sale going on where if you order one you got another one free until July 31st.....
This pen for the price, is pretty danged impressive. In all honesty, I think it writes pretty close to the Pilot Stargazer I bought last month that was WAY WAY more expensive. I did change out the converter that came with these pens to the standard international converter. But wow, for the price the build, look, and performance of these is something. I fond myself carrying this pen to work more often than the Stargazer I have been carrying to work the last month.
Freddy you have one of these? I'm a newbie in the FP world so maybe I'm way off base.
steeleshaves, I do not own a Jinhao but do own other Chinese fountain pens. I find quality control can be hit or miss. When it's good, as you have discovered, you get a lot of bang for the buck. Bottom line, no matter what the price, if the pen is working for you, you like the way it looks, is a smooth writer, and is well put together then you have yourself a winner. I just ordered (and received earlier today) two more Nemosine Singularity fountain pens. For me, at $14.99 apiece, they are a steal. While plastic, they don't feel cheap in the hand and have classic good looks. I find the nibs incredibly smooth out of the box, there is a choice of nibs (EF, F, M, B, .6mm calligraphy [aka stub], and .8mm calligraphy), they come with at least two international cartridges and a converter for use with bottled ink. The two I got today came with 6 cartridges each, as well as the converters and 40 (yes 40) extra cartridges because there was a weekend sale. Are these premium pens? Nope. However, I like them, I use them, and that is what's important. If you are enjoying that Jinhao then go for it!
I would love to see a writing sample and a photo of the pen. By the way, what size nib do you have on it?
