Man, what a fight. Hope you get a chance to rest up. I never realized what was expected of plow drivers. We all want the roads clear and salted or sanded, and I would guess that the crews that do it are taken for granted. Thank you for your efforts, even if I don't ever get to drive a road you cleared. Seriously. Thanks!

It’s the nature of the beast Eric.
They give 4hrs the first night then 5 every night after that. DOT rules are waived because it’s an “Emergency”. The guys here that have never been in  the military think they are hard core. But nothing I have dealt with here in 25 years and many blizzards. Compares to what the Army expects you to endure. This storm is just in slow motion and being a real pita. We only got like 6-7 inches. But drawn out from Sunday morning till late last night.

Didn’t get it with the plow. The snow coming off the plow hit it and it broke loose from the base. It happens. This was a wet heavy snow. And even going slower than normal some of the boxes aren’t too sturdy.

After approximately 49hrs of contact with the enemy. During which no casualties and only minor damage to allied combat vehicles was sustained. The enemy has retreated to the north.
Unfortunately several civilian mailbox casualties were reported. A short inquisition was opened and all personnel were cleared of any wrong doing.
Perimeter being secured. HQ ordered all personal and vehicles to their RP’s in advance of SOP RRR protocols.
The following personnel are recommended for the  Silver Snow Plow ?Medal
Pickup Driver, Club Soda Kenny. After his plow sustained combat damage. At night and in spite continuous enemy harassment. He quickly repaired it and rejoined the conflict. Displaying extreme resourcefulness and esprit de corps.
Dump truck driver Fluffy is also recommended for the Bronze Plow Medal ?. Cause he had spare bolts and a crescent wrench already in his vehicle so Club Soda Kenny didn’t have to go all the way back to the shop to fix his plow.

Still sounds like a mailbox problem rather than a snowplow problem.  I suppose you could not plow there and then wait for the howls of protest.  Isn't the blade designed to clear the snow a distance off the road at a specific speed?

The design and construction of the box plays a factor. Some of plastic ones just "snap" together. And are made to break away if hit by snow. Then if wood is involved then you have integrity problems with rot. If you want to know what kind of mailbox type or design can take punishment. Talk to someone that lives on a main road with a speed limit of 30 and above. The plows used on interstates are sometimes taller on the right hand side than the left. They need to get the snow up and over guardrails and jersey walls sometimes. My plow is the same height it's whole length. I think it's 3 1/2 feet tall. And 12 feet wide. Your speed, angle  and the weight of the snow determine how far it throws. Powdery snow can be a pain as it barely goes far off the edge of the plow. Before the air just blows it back against the side of the truck and not over the curb. Heavy snow will do the same if you go too slow.
It will roll around the end of the plow and back under your rear tires. But go too fast and you destroy all but the most bulletproof mailbox's.
