The Fine soap is not like Tabac -- nothing is like Tabac. Tabac stands alone. It was a marketing mistake to ever compare the two, IMHO, since it sets one up to over promise and under deliver, right out of the gate.

And Tabac is cheaper.

All this while I thought shavers were comparing the SCENT of Fine AB to the scent of Tabac. Today I received my Fine AB puck and I thought to myself, this soap smell almost exactly like D.R. Harris Windsor. Much more so than Tabac. When I get the puck grated up into a new container, I'll give it a go and report back my findings.

I killed the last Fine thread to make comparisons to Tabac and still never got a decisive answer. https://damnfineshave.com/thread-fine-ac...9#pid49589

It was only a matter of time before the excitement wore off and people realize it's no Tabac.

It seems these days, all the top soaps are similar in all categories and we tend to split hairs in terms of which is better in any given category ....which isn't a bad thing.

Agreed, I don't think Todd ever claimed that M&W (the makers of Tabac and IM) was the maker of his soap, but he did say that he felt he had discovered their soap base. Identical properties are unlikely but it's probably close enough for government work

I would respectfully add Sir Irisch Moos to the Tabac league.

Yes, that's he one I use from time to time as I have a few sticks. From what I know, which isn't much, it's IDENTICAL except for scent.

I also think that performance-wise these two are indistinguishable

Picked up the Platinum this morning. Great performance from the Fine soap and looking forward to trying this scent.

Just got my new container of tabac today. Can't wait to give it a whirl tonight for my shave. I used to have some years ago, but honestly I'm not sure if I ever used it. I've heard several people call its soap base one of the best ever made, so I'm happy to try it out!

I'm a fan of the scent...I know that's one of its biggest complaints.

Tabac and Sir Irisch Moos are both made by Maurer & Wirtz, and in my opinion share the same base, only scent differentiate them.
