I have realized that my face appreciates a pre-shave of some kind.  Sometimes I just wash my face, other times I'll use a cream or butter.  I have read that some just use water, but I tend to get worse results that way.
So, here are my favorite pre shave products, in no order:
Proraso Green
Proraso White
Mickey Lee Lime
Kiehl's Facial Fuel Wash
Bulldog Sensitive Face Wash

What are your favorites?

shave secret shaving oil that you can find at walmart is pretty decent and it's cheap.

I soak a hand towel in the hottest water I can tolerate and let it set of my face for 3 minutes or so. Have thought about putting some of the Proraso pre shave on my face and then the towel just to use it up, but I get a great shave with just a hot towel.

For me I have normal skin so a shower beforehand is all I need for a 'pre-shave'. I've used pre-shave oils before but I didn't care for it because it slowed down my razor and took away from the experience. If anything, I'll use a small amount of a face cleanser (burt's bees for me) before I hop into the shower and wash it off.

Noxzema! I wash my face with it immediately after entering the shower, then I use a bit of shampoo on my cheeks and neck before finishing the shower. Once I'm out, I apply a thin a layer of Noxzema while prepping the sink for the shave. Many dislike the smell, but I find that it's never interfered with the scent of my soaps.

Classic clean, which I think is the standard formula.
