Hi everyone - I wanted to give a shave report on this razor! I also wanted to thank Marhos24 again for sending PIFing it. He also sent me a tub of Maol Grooming Tangerine! Let's get into it.

Background - I've used 2 slants and both were horrendous. I had a Merkur which was way too aggressive for me. I also had an Ikon x3 which had major blade alignment issues that promptly got sent back (awful customer service btw). The Fatip razor intrigued me because people say that it is a mild slant which is right up my alley as I like mild razors. I usually do a two pass shave - either 2 wtg passes, maybe 1 wtg, xtg, or a wtg, atg, plus cleanup. Sometimes I'll do a standard 3 pass shave but once I got my Karve Overlander, I can do a 2 pass wtg, atg with some light cleanup and that has spoiled me. My second favorite razor is a WR2 0.95 SB (but there are times I wish I could try a 0.75 or 0.85). I have thick beard hair and sensitive skin.

The Razor - I've never had a Fatip before but this is definitely an attractive razor. Fit and finish are not to the level of machined razors though. I like the handle but it does seem a touch slippery when wet. If memory serves me correctly, it is hit or miss whether you get a Fatip with blade alignment issues or not. Unfortunately, for this razor, the undersized posts do allow for some blade play. I used a Merkur 15c for several years so aligning blades is not beyond my capabilities but I prefer not having to do it if I can. In this case, I actually used it to my advantage and given my liking for milder razors, I aligned one side of the blade to have the least I could of blade exposure and used that side solely for the shave. My very own make-shift adjustable slant!

The Shave - I received the package Friday afternoon but didn't open it till yesterday. My face was on the pain train after some unsuccessful razor and blade testing from Friday morning (with another razor) and my face needed a break. I had 2 to 3 days of growth yesterday, opened the box, saw the goodies, sanitized the razor, installed a fresh Gillette Silver Blue and went to it! I have to say the razor did surprise me. The razor (or the way I set it up) made the razor nice and mild but extremely efficient. I would say it was a tick up from the Overlander in blade feel. You could also feel the rigidity of the blade, which is a quality I really like in my razors. Audible noise was somewhat muted which I also like - I like silent assassins! The first pass went well enough that I decided to go ATG for the second pass. This is not something every razor can do for me - in fact, most can't. The razor handled it really well. I didn't get that tugging/pinching feeling in the hard areas of my jawline that I can get with some razors. I then proceeded with a light cleanup pass. Results of the shave were ever so slightly shy of BBS. I might have been able to push it if I used just a slight bit of pressure but due to my previous face pain, I decided to go easy. I did have a few weepers (that I did not feel) on the jaw line, however, I am not sure if that was due to the irritated area from the previous shave as I know my face wasn't fully "healed." I probably had the slight "I just shaved feeling" for about 30 min after the shave. Overall, I think it was a success. I appreciate its mild/efficient ratio and might play with a few blades to see if I can get it even more comfortable. The fact that it can go ATG so well is impressive and I really appreciate that quality. It doesn't quite beat my Overlander at this point, but is certainly a solid razor.

Thanks again for the PIF. I really appreciate it and the results were a lot better than expected considering my previous slant experience. I still can't figure out how to post pictures on here but you all know what it looks like Smile Thanks again Marhos24 and sorry for the delayed report!

Yes, you are definitely correct. I remember when I first came across the Fatip, to the issues that I saw were pretty common were blade alignment and the quality of the plating. The two that I have, occasionally I do have to occasionally make a little bit of an adjustment, but actually it's not too bad. Especially considering I have some razors that are easily double or triple what I paid for the Fatip that I occasionally I need to fiddle with the alignment. I have the gold and the copper plated and they both look pretty good. Is it a super high-end look?, Definitely not. But based on what I had read and heard, I honestly expected worse. It is not at all out of the question that I either just happen to get a couple good ones or that they have improved their plating process because this was a few years ago that I had first seen them and heard about these issues. I have the grande open comb and to me the blade field is there but minimal, but it is actually very efficient. Based on the light blade feel, I was surprised by the BBS results I was able to get doing my usual passes. I'm happy with my fatigues for what I paid for them, and that includes the quality of the razor itself, the plating, and the performance. I enjoy using them and I'm glad you did too! I have never tried the Overlander, but I have four Karve razors right now and they are pretty much my favorites. And I think they are an outstanding value for what you get in terms of quality and performance.

Nice pif. Have the Fatip OC and while certainly not a machined tool it's a well constructed product which is quite efficient in providing dfs's. Typically i have found pairing it with a less sharper blade is an approach to consider.
