UPDATE:

I posted this in my Merchants Thread so I thought since a lot of people check this thread out based on emails I get I thought I’d post the same update  I wrote in that thread as there’s been a bit of a change I decided on and it’s explained below.

I’m gonna let this go till Tuesday at noon because I think I made a mistake posting right before the weekend which is traditionally the site has less visitors. Long as I have a name by then as the serum is all ready to go and I just need to order labels.

Just so you guys know I’m going to go through each and every post so if any of you want, you can edit your post as many times as you want before Tuesday at 12 noon EST but please keep it to 3 picks.

Also as a side note, I agree that Cannabliss is a excellent name and that would cover the relaxing properties of this collection relating to some of the future products I have plans to add to the collection but in the case of this serum don’t forget the Healing , Anti- Inflammation/irritation and UV protection this serum offers

Thought I’d post this here as well as my merchants thread.

Just released and up on the site.

The Custom Collection Skin Food Splash which is Unscented but as you see there there is a drop down menu where you can pick from a number of different essential oils to customize the aroma to your liking.  This is what will be referred to as Level 1 custom option. We are working on Level 2 which offers aroma blends that have 2 or more aroma ingredients such as Lavender and Peppermint or Lemon, Lime and spearmint for example.  I’ll be adding more blends to the list as time goes on. These customizing options will also be available in other products in the Custom Collection as well.

Hello Gentlemen

I can use some options on something I’ve been going back and forth on.  I’ll try to make it short.. not always easy for me lol

Anyway as anyone that know my shave soap jars they all have a brushed aluminum lid on them. Well after creating the new label with my graphic designer for the upcoming Mandarino Fumo in the new Humidor Collection I thought to myself I wonder what a brushed matte finished gold lid would look like. The supplier I get my silver lids from has the gold in stock to. I will say I’d use the the Gold ones when I start to offer custom made shave soaps when the level 3 customizing option becomes available if that’s what the customer wants but looking at my whole line of products I’m not sure I want to go away from the look of the packaging  I’ve established the brand with from the get go.  So anyway my graphic designer mocked up a matte gold lid and also the standard silver. She likes the gold but likes the silver more.

So what’s your take on this subject.

My thoughts are the gold looks nice but not enough better to leave what you've started to keep it all uniform for branding if that's what you want.

I feel like the label pops more with the original lid. The gold does look nice though. I am curious what the scent notes in that one is too!

Both work quite well, with the gold just edging it for a couple of small reasons.
1. It works well with the color of the font.
2. Humidor line immediately creates the image of a Cigar and a gold band.

IMO the gold goes much better with this particular label.  Speaking more generally, here are some considerations that occur to me:

  • Each color has advantages for different cases.  IMO Colonia, Lavender, and Success were better framed as they were, in silver.  Mélange d'agrumes might have looked better with gold, and I'm guessing that Greenfresh and Mysore would have done at least as well, and maybe better.
  • You mentioned that the finish is brushed matte, and to me, that is as important as the color.  The matte finish is a big part of why I like gold with the label above.  OTOH matte is not what I would want with, say, Colonia.
  • This may be just me, but I'll put it out there anyway:  Speaking as an amateur photographer shooting with a cell phone, glossy gear can make it harder for me to edit something in a way that best shows off the gear - other things being equal of course.  There are plenty of us amateurs posting SOTD photos every day, so to the extent that something helps us show your handiwork better, it's a good thing. But as I said, maybe that's just me.
  • All label considerations also depend on the caps.  I know you didn't ask about caps, but other things being equal, if I were using a matte, gold border (quite possibly with a matte interior), I might prefer black or matte black cap instead of the silver caps on the related products.

  • Last, and definitely not least, is the complexity and cost.  Two colors? Different caps?  Of course, only you can decide.

Hmm?   Huh

Good luck Frank.

Gold probably looks better in this case, given the color scheme of this label - gold lettering (ETHOS, Humidor Collection, etc.) framed against the gold backdrop. A possible suggestion would be to stick with the white lettering for your brand and collection names etc., which should make the silver backdrop more appealing.

That said, I do not see any harm from certain collections deviating from the "standard" packaging color scheme. The color change, if done deliberately, can serve to differentiate your different collections (see Atelier Cologne, Mancera, Creed, multiple other perfume houses). As long as your products labels stay consistent - there will be a thread linking all of your products.

Wow a lot of excellent feedback and input!

So one comment was something that made me think of using the Gold on this label and that was that when I look at a cigar or a humidor most have gold on them.

Having two different lids does have its financial disadvantages as it forces me to have a larger inventory of both colors.  Oh and as far as black goes I haves used black for the Dragonsbeard Shave soap jar and label.

Ok so here’s the one thing that’s been the thing that was/is triggering my case of OCD and that is that I can get both the shave soap jar lid and the fine mist sprayers for the EDT’s and EDP’s but there is no matte gold continuous thread cap for the Skin Food Splashes in matte gold. There is however shinny gold. So I can’t quite get past the fact they’d be different and the gold cap is also shorter in height to my normal brushes and shinny silver caps are..

I’ve taken screen shots of both the matte and shinny closures available to me through suppliers I work with below.

I can get shinny gold in all 3 tops I need but not sure how I feel about shinny gold.
