Looking forward to my 1st Elite Razor - I had purchased one through the Movember auction a few years ago, but had earmarked it as a gift for my Dad as soon as it arrived. And a big thanks to Bob Quinn for the work he does and the help he gave with resolving a PayPal issue!
Well, it's a new year and I've completed some new brushes. I don't do segmenting with stone very often, so I thought I would build a few. I hope you like them.
Copper Laced Onyx (26mm)
Copper Laced Onyx, which is a member of the chalcedony family which also includes carnelian, agate, bloodstone, etc. Occurring naturally in a variety of colors, black onyx is polished to enhance appearance, a member of the quartz family. The name comes from the Greek word onyx which means nail of a finger or claw. Legend says that one day while Venus was sleeping Eros/Cupid cut her fingernails and left the clippings scattered on the ground. Because no part of a heavenly body can die, the gods turned them into stone which later became known as Onyx. The black segment is pure Onyx.
Imperial Jade (26mm)
Jade (pronounced “Yu” in Chinese – meaning “the most beautiful stone”) has been considered a royal gem in China from the earliest dynasties up until present times, and is inextricably woven into ancient and modern Chinese culture. The use of Jade in China dates back some 8,000 to 12,000 years, and was an integral part of commercial, religious and ceremonial life. In ancient China, Jade was held in higher esteem than materials such as gold or silver. There is an ancient Chinese proverb that says: “Gold is estimable, but Jade is priceless.”.
