Elite Razor - Custom and Unique Razors and Brushes

I've had this small piece of striped resin in my shop for a while wanting me to turn it.  It was too small for a complete handle, but the pure black knot cup was the perfect answer.

The stripes are more of a Butterscotch color than is represented in the picture.

Elite [Bob Quinn] Lotus 3 ring silvertip in Afzelia

I had no idea about the wood - a description follows : and another beauty from Bob.

Afzelia zylocarpa, known as Makamong burl in Southeast Asia, is a beautiful burl that is rare on the World Market! Similar in appearance to Amboyna burl, Afzelia burl has more varied figure in burl form. The sapwood of afzelia is pale yellow to white, while the heartwood ranges from light brown to reddish-brown. The grain is straight and slightly interlocked. The wood has a medium luster, and the texture is somewhat coarse but even. Because Afzelia wood is so hard and strong, it is among the most valuable exotic hardwood species. It uses include fine flooring, furniture, decking, stair rails, and construction. It has excellent resistance to attack by termites. The wood remains smooth under friction. . The dried wood has a leather-like smell upon planing. As a flooring option, Afzelia's hardness is over twice that of southern yellow pine, noticably harder than hard maple, almost identical to hickory or pecan, and about three quarters as hard as santos mahogany.

After 4 days without power and another with no internet, I was finally able to get back into the shop and finish up a couple of brush handles I had in progress.  These have just been listed at www.eliterazor.com.

Rarely do I get a piece of this wood that presents with the grain running horizontally.  It almost looks like sand dunes in the desert.

Bob, can you elaborate on your new boar brush option. I have had recent bad luck with boars. My last couple of brushes have been so floppy I can't get any agitation on my face or in the bowl. Have you tried these your self. Thanks in advance. Have several handles that would look nice with boars-just want to make sure i am not lathering with spaghetti.
