Yep. The top piece came right out of the handle.
It was the brand new stainless version with stainless handle.
I have said this in other forums but I am sure that the ends of the handle EJ uses are press fit ends much like the Karve and many of the vintage Gillette's... There is no picture evidence of any glue being used so far which makes me think its press fit also!! I'm not sure its good business for Joe to be posting pics of it to drive up his sales of the GC though. It just reflects badly on him bashing a competitor... Just my opinion!!

Now you have me intrigued... I have a Karve as well as a tech with a hollow fat handle. Always assumed the handles were formed out of one piece of metal. Very interesting... So press fitting is like it sounds? Put the pieces together and hydrologic press them into each other, or somesuch?
I think a TLC or discovery channel show on the history, design, and making of razors would be cool.
Thanks for the info. I swear, I learn something new here everyday day.
Also, as an aside, I can absolutely see your point about Joe. On the other hand, as a consumer, I am glad to know some issue arose. Mind you it could be a fluke. Still, I like to thoroughly review product... Due diligence and all.

Evidence that the Karve handle ends are press fit?

Just my opinion but, I see no wrong here. I mean, we see it everyday in television ads with competitors going at each other for a consumers dollar. Best example is the auto manufacturers, they're the first ones to take a negative from the competition and use it to their advantage in their marketing schemes. And yet no one screams about that or countless other ads of competitive marketing. Are razor manufacturers supposed to abide by an unwritten law of gentlemanly conduct between razor manufacturers/artisans because the community is above that type of negative marketing or promotion to gain an advantage in the sales world? Capitalism, that's what drives the economy and especially in todays global market.
Survival of the fittest. Step your game up and eat. Or be eaten.
Okay, so since this thread is completely off topic, I just want to say that when I made the original statement, I assumed the ends were glued because in another forum there was a comment about some sort of hard clear residue around the ends. They assumed it was glue and so I did too. My ends never came off and so I do not know if it was glued or pressed. My point was that the handle itself was hollow and so lighter than expected.
As for all this other stuff that came out from muzichead simple question, all I can say about the RR thing is that Joe builds good razors and does not have to resort to trash talking the competetion (even though he says he isn't bashing). EJ designed the 3one6 to be a razor that can be mass produced for the worldwide market. If this includes hollow handles with end pieces fitted on, that's part of it. RR will produce a couple of hundred razors to be sold out in an hour once released and then move on to another until it cycles back. It is more efficient for him to CNC machine his razors not because of quality and all that stuff, but because MIM and other processes require a lot of up front cost in setting up the process. Many prefer to sit at their computer and watch the twitter feeds and go to the web site and hit <ctrl>F5 every two seconds just to be the first to put a razor in their cart and hope that it doesn't sell out before you check out. Others prefer to go to any major vendor and put a razor in their cart any time they want. It's the way of the universe, no right or wrong or one way over another.

Evidence that the Karve handle ends are press fit?
Hope this helps you out... Here are a couple pics of the parts...
