Gents,
Lapping And finishing hard dense stones with SiC powder in various grits is the way to go. I had read about it, but found out the hard way...after wasting five hours with a nano plate and coarse DMT on a very hard stone.
At any rate I had a really good experience buying a custom cut glass plate from the Dulles Glass and Mirror Website. They are currently having a 40% off sale!
There are less expensive options...like a thinner and smaller glass plate from Home Depot or a granite tile, but I wanted a 1/2 thick 15x18 tempered glass plate. I figured that would be plenty sturdy, and give me lots of real estate to work with when lapping and finishing my jasper and Arkansas stones.
The code is July40, and it doesn’t say when the sale ends.
